That rather sounds like a proliferating DM, creating custom Paragon Paths and Epic Destinies.

I mean, "Dragon Reborn" is definitively a epic destiny!

Cheers, LT.
mmmm not sure, if Dragon Reborn is an epic destiny Rand cannot take it until he is level 21! He was using the power from the first week of the book, therefore a template (which increases in power as a character levels, yes) IMO. Oh I suppose he could have an Epic Destiny (and Paragon Path) as well ;)

Vlad Taltos - Rogue multiclassed with wizard, with the Ritual Casting feat for the Witchcraft (psionic?) power source.
Morrolan (and the other Dragon lords) - Fighter, multiclassed with wizard, and either uses his paragon path to go further into Wizard or has some nasty magical paragon path.

Conan. Barbarian or fighter. Makes heavy use of retraining, and at various points in his career is multiclassed with rogue (with the stealth skill training feat) or multiclassed with warlord.

Good calls, Atlatl Jones!

Dies the Fire (speculative fiction series where gunpowder and electricity suddenly stop working, and SCA folks and other archaic hobbyists take over):
Mike Havel: Warlord, lightly multiclassed with Ranger
Juniper Mackenzie: Warlord, with ritual casting feat and skill training: nature
Sam "the archer": Ranger (archer path)
Astrid: Ranger (archer path), multi'd into fighter

LotR:
Legolas: Ranger (archer path)
Gimli: fighter
Aragorn: Warlord, multi'd with ranger for Nature skill and Hunter's Quarry (he's good at taking down single enemies). Feat training for Perception and Stealth skills.
Boromir: Fighter, multi'd with warlord
Faramir: Ranger (archer path), multi'd into warlord

Hobbits: non-heroic classes. The whole point was that they weren't big & capable tough guys, right? :)

Lankhmar:
Fafhrd: ranger (twf with graywand and heartseeker), multi'd with rogue
Gray Mouse: rogue, with twf, skill training: arcana, and ritual casting feats

Kvothe the Bloodless

Wizard (or possibly warlock, I'm having trouble categorizing Sympathy, whereas knowing the Name of the Wind definitely seems slightly warlock-ish, in terms of straight power) with Sneak of Shadows. (Possibly also took Skill Training: Bluff and Skill Training Diplomacy)

About what I was thinking, maybe with some skill training in lute performance (although since it is more of a 'fluff' thing maybe it is gone like profession skills?) and feats in longsword since it looks like he will be swinging that thing in later books and with the limitations of sympathy he won't be throwing magic missiles every round.

Drizzt

Fighter multiclass with Rogue, picking up Ranger rather than a paragon path.
I'll bite, he seemed like a straight up striker to me, why not just TWF Ranger with racial powers and maybe Rogue multi to broaden?

Eowyn : Fighter with paladin traits.

Two R.A. Salvatore heroes:
Drizzt Do'Urden : Fighter with Ranger traits, paragon path : Gary-Stu.
Cattie-Brie: Fighter, paragon path : Mary-Sue.

Sadly we lack classes to set Kimmuriel Obladra (psionic). Dwahvel would be a halfling rogue and Ryld would be a fighter/barbarian (I guess).

Those three are my favoriute FR characters. Not much multiclass fun though...

I just realized that with his charisma, warlock might be a slightly better fit, not that he isn't smart as all get out (he is, and scarily so), but the knowing Names in that world seems to leave you quite insane by the end of it.

Did they say much about swordplay in the book? I must have missed that.

Elric of Melnibone

Elric, tiefling wizard, m/c fighter

Personally I think a character like Elric will be one of the hardest types to represent in 4e. He is one of the most skilled Melniboneans when it comes to battle and is the most powerful of their sorcerers alive during his reign. I can't see him as being just a dabbler in a warrior class. IMHO, he does more fighting with weapons than actually casting spells. I think he is closer to the epitome of the 50/50 character.
