Here we go- all the threadcrappery.

Guess what?- if you like 4E just the way it is- this product is not for you :)

I happen to like 4E, and one of the reasons I like it cos it reminds me of B/X Moldvay/Cook/Marsh D&D in many ways-now I get to have Necro's takes on 1E feel to add (or not) too. Clark,Bill & Crew put out some of the best/most consistent adventures and supplemental material in the D20 industry for many years-unfortunately it was for a system I could not stand to play or run. Now I might be able to actually use it.

I don't know if I'll use this supplement but I am glad someone is making it because I am sure that plenty of other players/GMs will. More people happy with a system= more fun.

I'll be doing my best to keep up with this as it develops, it's still to soon to know if this will be the sort of thing that's for me or not. Count me interested.

Pretty much ditto.

I generally like 4e, but there are some things that bug me. The Powers may feel quite different in play, but the homogeneity of mechanic still vexes me. I want martial maneuvers/exploits to feel different than arcane spells or divine prayers when I'm picking them during character creation or level-up.

I'm hoping that Necromancer's 4e mods will keep what I like about 4e and spice up the parts I don't.

Actually, I think the word "spice" very succinctly describes what's missing from 4e. It's a great base system and a lot of thought went into it. But some of the implementations (powers, magic items, summoning) play it too safe. I got oatmeal, when what I really wanted was curry.

It is ambitious.

It could be awesome.

It won't be easy to do.

Sounds like Clark & Co. are trying to do exactly what i wanted for 4e, to spice up the dull bits. In general i like the system very much, but the vanilla nature of all the powers leaves me somewhat cold. It won't be easy for them, no.

I don't know, I like the concept but that magic missile just doesn't look like 4E to me. If you make 4E with a 1E feel, it still needs to look like 4E right?

No, it should look like 1E, but using 4E technology (Attack Powers, Defenses, d20 mechanics, etc.). The idea is to recreate the feel of 1E but without nonsense like THAC0 or arbitrary Saving Throw categories.

I agree and that is what is wrong with the magic missile posted, it breaks the encounter nature and power level.

So one route would be ie style powers but as encounter or dailies or
Alternatively could a purely vancian caster be balanced with the existing wizard?
