D&D 4E 4E with a party of two?

Sure can't hurt to try! Scaling back will be important to party survival. That can be done with numbers of monsters or look in other threads for a "semi-" (demi-?) monster which is meant to be one-half of a standard / double power of a minion, at 1/2 xp instead of 1/4. Some encounters would work fine to reduce numbers of monsters but others would work better with toning down what's there.

Make sure both the players and you run what you're comfortable with. Despite several comments here against multi-characters per player, I've seen that work extremely well in some campaigns, but only if the player is good on preparation and on roleplaying. I would not try to shift the party composition - let each player pick the character(s) they want to play and have fun with it. Don't try to get too bogged down with 'covering' the roles.

If you do run it with two characters, be sure to post the results - I would be very curious to know how it turned out :)

The only problem with Party of Two is that you'd have to house-rule in an encounter power to pat your buddy's ass.

Sounds more like a utility power (usable once per encounter) than an encounter power. Encounter powers are attacks, patting your buddy's ass doesn't count. Well I suppose it might depending on how hard you were hitting him . . .

Depends on if your buddy's touchy.

Butt Pat Jock (Suppressed Sexuality) Attack 1
Good job, little buddy!
Encounter
Minor Action
Target: One Ally
Attack: +6 vs. Reflex (OR Will if your character is of a higher level)
Hit: Ally gains +1 to saving throw until end of your next turn; you gain +1 to all attacks.

I like to hear about pages 10 and 31. Usually when we play D&D it is solo gaming. The Wife GMs me, and I run two characters. In solo play that doesn't kill RPing, because we can take as much time as we want to roleplay.

So the idea that the game can handle, and has advice on such things is sweet sweet music to my ears.

And I usually tend to play multiclass characters. :) We usually gestalted once those rules came out. So that works well for me as a player. A paladin MC with Cleric and a Wizards with some extra stuff... already looking forward to it. :)
