4th Edition D&D

Only in your mind, needless to state but you don't seem to be in anyway psychic,

my agreement was in him being proactive, not waiting for some one else to wrte it, but him sorting it out himself, and making a better game

so you can see, you are completely wrong
Is English your first language? Because "bingo" has a very specific meaning.

disingenuous?, how dare you make assumptions has to how I think, and why I reply to a post,

if anyone here is "disingenuous" and it is you who is trolling,

If you can't be anything but negative, then please feel free to refrain from posting in this thread
I predict you're banned within two weeks, after about a dozen more of these allegedly innocuous threads simply intended to stir crap up.

Man I can see why 4th ed threads don't last/end well with poster like that,

anyhow

If you could change just one single thing in 3.5 to make it 4th ed what would you change?

I think as with the changes brought by 3rd Edition, many of the changes in 4th Edition will come from popular house rules (including variant d20 rules on the market:

  • Reduced/combined skills (Hide+Move Silently -> Sneak, etc.), with some type of revision to the way class/cross-class skills work
  • Non-random hit points as the default
  • No multiclass restrictions for Paladins and Monks
  • Summon Familiar will be a feat instead of a set class ability
  • Free Eschew Material Components for Sorcerers
  • Bonus 0th-Level Spells for high ability scores
  • Faster feat progression for characters
  • Better high-level combat feats for Fighters included in core rules
  • One or two new core classes based on the most popular non-core base classes from the 3E supplements (warlock and artificer would be my guesses for 1st pick and 2nd pick, possibly in place of the sorcerer)
  • Revised Wild Shape ability and Polymorph spells
  • More rule exceptions (skill syngergies are the first thing that comes to mind) will be changed or removed to streamline the rules

These are just off the top of my head - I'm sure I could think of some other things given more time.

Remember that it always takes more than just one person. If it was just one person and no one responded, there would be no issue. In all honesty though, I can see the angle from which he was coming from.

I think the one thing that irks me and it is a sacred cow is hit points. Hit points represent ability to take damage, ability to turn serious damage into less serious damage as well as expertise and to a certain extent luck. I'd prefer this to be cleaned up a little. However, in doing so, you overcomplicate the game and muck around with the "balance" that currently exists. A no-win situation.

Perhaps what I'd really like my D&D to look like is one where magic is not so overt but more mysterious. A cross between Iron Heroes, D&D3.5 and the fantasy fiction I enjoy (Martin, Vance, Feist, Leiber,etc...) Perhaps if magic was less certain and more varied in possible effect; definitely not wild magic but not the pristine formulae currently in vogue.

Anyway, whatever direction WoTC move in, I'm sure I'll enjoy and support it, regardless of whether it matches my preferences or not.

Best Regards

Okay, folks, I know some of you don't like 4e threads. That does not give you an excuse to be anything less than respectful in them. I don't want to see any more name-calling (and "troll" qualifies), or other forms of threadcrapping in here. If you don't like the discussion here, go read another thread.

The D&D 4E I would like to see would move towards Modern d20 with a mix of "Buy the Numbers". 4 base classes with lots of customization options using a modified point buy system.
