Team Lake

As the light from the sword grew closer, the Lizardfolk ran along the lake's edge and then plunged into the water, disappearing under. The kayaks rounded the point - a jagged ledge of black rock, and found the muddy beach that Svetlana had described. The only sign of the Lizardfolk was a rippling on the surface of the lake, where he had gone in.

Aywin had suggested that they consider heading for the second side-channel, that looked much like the "sewer" from back south. But where the lake narrowed, the water flowed swiftly through a rocky narrowing. Here, both sides of the lake were not the muddy banks of before, but the same black rock of the mountain, worn down by water.

The group were also awarded their first true glimpse of the strange object, as it sat on the muddy bank, the light of the lightbringer caused a red stone on its "roof" to glow softly. Or did it glow itself?

Notes: 1) Muddy Bank; 2) Strange Object; 3) Second "Sewer" Tunnel; 4) Swift Current (the banks here are stone, and rise up 10-15ft over the water channel between the two sides); 5) Where the Lizardfolk jumped in...

With Scamp's vision, Urgan sees that the small building might be a teleporter of some kind. He signals as much with sign language, for anyone who is watching him, noting that it's just speculation. They don't need to investigate further now, but knowing it exists might be useful later.

TEAM LAKE - SUBJECT:SHADE-9 - EVASIVE MANOUVERES!

Shade-9 turned slightly as their kayak passed the jagged ledge, scanning the beach ahead to confirm Svetlana's report.

[SCANNING: Unknown construction, Possible artifact - source of illumination unidentified] [Log Entry: Object with glowing red stone — further investigation required.]

Shade-9 logged the anomaly but did not linger there, instead sweeping across the water to the ripples where the lizardfolk had disappeared beneath the surface. His optics narrowed, shifting to track the creature's movement.

"Potential Threat in the water" he informed Bjorn and the others behind him "Evasive manoeuvres, Darius - heading to shore, brace for landing!"

With a fluid motion Shade-9 plunged his paddle into the dark water on the starboard side of their kayak, pulling the bow sharply around. The warforged was ready to disembark or engage as required - diplomacy was not his forte, but neither was unnecessary violence his default protocol.

OOC: Scanning Lake for sign of the Lizardfolk (Tracking)
Perception: 1D20+6 = [14]+6 = 20

Kayak Dexterity check: 1D20+3 = [15]+3 = 18 heading to land at P13-14

@FitzTheRuke So I have 3 unassigned bonus languages:) can I make one of them Draconic?
My Cha is only 10 though, so if someone else wants to lead the diplomacy that would be better.

Torhak considers his options, should he join the group, negating their potential advantage and not risk the traps...or keep his distance.

OOC: these red things probably expect the statues we're looking for? Or we need to prevent statues from getting there?

Team Lake - Aywin

Aywin follows Shade-9's lead and directs his kayak a few feet away on the shore. He disembarks and pulls the kayak along, to ensure the lizard man doesn't get any ideas. He tells his companions "I recommend we bring the kayaks along, just in case". He then moves closer to the artifact.

"Well we need to head to the storeroom to drop this off anyway." Copper muses. "Why not take a quick peak at the prisoner?"

Team Infiltrate

The wagon rolled along heading down long ramp-like hallways until it came to the third bend, where the forward cultist stopped the oxen, and waved to the "Driver" to put on the break - a simple wooden lever that blocked the movement of the right front wheel. The cultist behind, who had been talking to Copper, went around front and moved a stone that was part of a support pillar in the wall. He then cranked on a metal drum, and chains could be heard moving behind the walls.

When he was done, the front cultist gestured to Lorent to release the break, and he pulled the oxen forward. Their hooves made click-clack noises over a series of pressure plates in the floor, but they safely carried on.

"The grinder is a nasty piece of work," the aft cultist told Copper, waving at lines in the walls' stonework. "Made by Bhaalites, I'm told. Big great heavy drums lined with sickle blades swing out from both sides. It's a mess to clean up."

He said the last as if he'd done the job, and he probably had.

The next bend led to a north-going hallway that quickly opened into a large room, cobbled with red stones. A circular mosaic on the floor of the center of the room showed a white skull, surrounded by ten circling blood-drops. There were doors, both to the north and east, and a large staircase to the west. The staircase had shallow risers, and grooves carved into it at standard wagon-axle width, as well as a chain system on its ceiling.

The aft cultist began to hook the wagon up to the chain system, while the forward cultists spoke to a severe-looking woman, who had been standing in front of the north door. The woman questioned him, and she looked past him at the wagon with a suspicious eye. She wore a shield, and she slowly drew a longsword as she looked them over. But she did not attack, nor did she raise an alarm.

OOC: Yes, the wagon actually goes down the stairs, strange as that may seem. They will help you get it down if you don't want to jump them, yet. The prison and storeroom are downstairs.
