My first 5E character was a human fighter so I get it, but I'm surprised it's THAT far ahead of everything else. Then again starting with two Feats is pretty big even if they're limited to Oregano Feats.

I just don't like the new goliaths. Pretty much all the old goliath lore is out the window, and ultimately, after three editions of being a giant-like race who were their own thing, they have finally been reduced to thematic lesser giantkin associated with specific species of giants.

Humans remain a strong choice, elves have some strong choices. Tieflings are just inherently cool. I can't imagine being highly motivated to play an orc, and only slightly moreso a dwarf. I don't like that aasimar no longer have subtypes.

I picked Dragonborn, Goliath and Human. Of the three, I would be more likely to role-play the 5.5 Dragonborn. It's a lot better than the 5.0 version with regards to its' breath weapon (I like how you can now switch between a line and a cone AoE) and its' new Spectral wings feature. However, I do wish each kind of Dragonborn had a subspecies trait or two to help set them apart from one another. A topic for another thread... :p

If I were creating a character, my top three choices would be Halfling, Dragonborn, Tiefling.

For me, these three have fun built-in stories:

Halflings: being the underdog, the small one in a world of giants

Dragonborn: being the charismatic monster, all the interesting characteristics of dragons

Tiefling: opportunity to explore demonic origin / influence

i would've been curious to see how the results of this poll compare taken against one for the nine 5e14 options, see how the different lineups and mechanical designs of each ranked against each other.
