D&D 5E 5e Halcyon Academy

"Well, lets get moving then. Asherah and I will take the point, Merdash go right, Korlin left. You, Jorrick and Raven cover our backs. Zivar, Mezzra, Dariana, stay in the middle and cover us as needed. I hope we don't need it, but keep your eyes open.

Oh, as I said, I'm Quentin Khad, a sailor, hopeful captain. I'm here because my House thinks I have what it takes to pass The Academy."

He looks around for dissent and, if he finds none, starts across the clearing after "the mocking bird".

The sailor seems confident in his course, and it seems in line with the Elf. Zivar follows suit, finding some comfort in the idea that he isn't going to be on the edge of the group.

He double checks to see that he has all his things before leaving with the group.

The jolly group travels down the hill, and towards the tree line.

The air seems crisper here than many are used to. The smells and sounds of the forest bombard the travelers, insects flying, critters scampering out of their way.

The trees are tall, with high branches that block out much of the sunlight, though enough gets through to keep the area in bright light.

After about an hour of walking, the group comes to a clearing. The sky has grown overcast. There are many flowers and plants throughout the clearing, but the ones that stick out are the very large purple pods. They are each about a foot and a half long, and about half as wide, and they are all pointed straight up to the sky. They aren't terribly close together, but instead spread out throughout the entire clearing.

In the middle of the clearing, a few hundred feet away, is what looks to be a chapel of some kind. From here it looks old, made of stone with a single stained glass window on the side facing you, though it doesn't look that run down.

"A church? In the middle of a bleeding forest?" Raven says. "I don't like it. I don't like anything around here."

"It looks well kept," Merdash says. "We may find help there. It could be part of the test."

"Or it could be a trap to kill us all," Raven snaps back.

They each look back to see what the others say. Mizzra slinks back, averting her eyes and refusing to give an answer. Jorrick apparently found a beetle to play with, and was watching it crawl over his axe, not paying attention.

Korlin simply looks at Asherah. "What do you think? Try out the church? See if there's help? Or avoid it and try out luck on our own?"

Mim takes in the sounds of the forest relaxing now he has places to duck and hide if things go south.

The church perplexed Mim why was it here such a short distance from the other? The indecision of the group irked Mim, especially Jorick who was sat playing with an insect, Mim wasn't even going to get started on this Korlin fellow so attached to this cat.Mim wonders if they knew each other before hand.

Straining his eye's to see through the glass Mim raises his hand indicating the others should wait. Nimbly slotting a bolt into his crossbow. Looking around Mim tries to deduce the best direction to approach from.

OOC: perception[roll0].
Provided that Mim can't see anything untoward he will approach trying to remain as hidden as possible. Stealth [roll1]

"Zivar is right. I've never seen such pods and they are too regular. This reeks of a trap, natural or not, but a trap nonetheless. Be careful, Mocking Bird."

Quentin finds a rock or a heavy branch and prepares to throw it at something threatening the kenku.
"We'll watch your back. Jorrick, keep your attention on the way we came from, please."

Mim turns to Quentin and smiles. Mim liked Quentin he was decisive and looked like he would put up a fight... at least long enough for Mim to escape.

OOC: Can a Kenku even smile? Now I think about it if they could it would be terrifying. And now we wait the suspense is killing me.
