D&D 5E 5e Halcyon Academy

[sblock=Quentin, Asherah and Dariana]Professor Taris looked over the group. "If you like, I can at least show you how to use those weapons of yours. Doesn't look like any of you, except maybe the elf, is proficient with them. You're not bad, you made it to the Academy after all. But there are a few pointers that i could give that might make it a little easier to wield them. If you choose to spend more of your time at the School of Combat, that will become less useful, as you will eventually become proficient with every weapon there is. But, if you want to spend more time at other schools, then being proficient in a few weapons wouldn't hurt you.

If you'd prefer something else, I don't know if any of you are going to the School of the Arcane or the School of the Divine, but casting spells and fighting at the same time is hard work. We can help with that as well. If you would prefer, I can teach you how to multitask, keeping your concentration while taking a hit and casting spells while holding weapons and shields."

He moves to Quentin, standing in front of him. "Or, if you prefer, you can head over to the College of Skill and learn more about how to use words to inspire and encourage. Many a leader has chosen that course. You could just learn that and then come back to combat, or you could take that skill to the extreme, and learn how to weave magic with your words. Not every Bard is a music player. Some are great orators and leaders. Less direct combat, though you'd be able to hold your own, but more of the captain inspiring his crew. Just think about it."

He stepped over to Asherah, eyeing the second weapon on her belt. "I can show you how to use both at the same time. It isn't as hard as some might suggest, but it'd give you an edge. A flaming spear in one hand and an icy flail in the other? Could be very intimidating."

Lastly, he stood before Dariana. "You're already pretty good with that bow. I can make you better. I can show you how to hit the smallest part of your target sticking out of cover, and a few tricks on how to shoot further, more accurately. If you'd like."

He stepped back and turned to look at his students. "Well? Where would you like to begin?"

OOC: As you are choosing Combat instead of random magic, you actually get a choice in your Feat. Everyone can choose Weapon Master, to become proficient with their weapon, plus three others of their choosing. This is best if you aren't going to go for proficiency in all weapons. Dariana is already proficient with some weapons, but she could choose a bunch of others if she likes.

Second, if you know you are going to go for magic, you can get the War Caster feat. Alternately, you could just choose the Resiant Feat and get proficiency in Constitution Checks, but if you go Sorcerer, that's a waisted Feat.

And lastly, you each get a custom Feat option. Quentin can opt to go to the School of Skill and learn Inspiring Leadership, Asherah can get Dual Wielder, so she can use both her weapons at once, and Dariana can get Sharpshooter.

You may pick one of the above Feats, and Professor Taris will instruct you accordingly. Once your feat is selected, if Asherah or Quentin would like to have their powers awakened, they can go through the same process the others did in awakening theirs. However, you will not get a Feat to go with it. It will merely awaken your power and allow you to take the Sorcerer Option. Dariana can go to the School of the Arcane on her own merit and become a Wizard, but Asherah and Quentin can only go as Sorcerers, so they must have their power awakened in order to qualify for the School of the Arcane. Same if they would like to try for Bard. They must have their power awakened first.

OOC: Asherah, I was planning on granting a Feat to where people reported to first. If she goes to combat, she'll get a combat feat. If she goes to get her power awakened, she'll get an appropriate feat. I won't be giving more than one free feat at this time, so she can't get both. She could go have her power awakened later, when I offer a feat again, but I don't know when that will be.

Note, she CAN go to combat first, get the feat, then have her power awakened, as it'll open a class option, she just won't get the corresponding feat. That choice is up to you.

Yeah, she went to Combat first. Went with my highest score first.

Round 0

Asherah gave the teacher in plate a respectful bow. “Good teacher, I was scored highly for this school in my trials. I wish to discover what I am capable of.” She paused. “And to honor a fallen companion.” She touched the flail that hung at her waist, though she had her spear in her hand. “One who died that we might survive.”

Asherah nodded at Professor Taris’ words. “Then I would like to learn both weapons, yes,” she said, “so I can use both.”

OOC: Do I get proficiency with the flail, or not, since it’s martial? Or do I have to keep in the school of Combat for that?

OOC: No proficiency. Just able to use it, or any other weapon, in your offhand. You'll have to get proficiency in other ways, such as spending more time with the School of Combat, or earning another Feat and taking Weapon Master, though it might be a while before you get another one.

OOC:
So Zivar Passes out at the end of it then. Woo hoo for starting with 2hp :)
Horrible disfigurement I mean 2d20 coming right up!

Quentin thanks the old fighter. "I might indeed do that - the crew and its trust in their captain is the glue that makes them harmless victims of the sea or fighting force to be reckoned with. I would like to be able to maintain their morale, but not at the expense of leading by example."

OOC: I'm very torn on this - on one hand, I have to raise CHA if I'm taking Inspiring Leader (do I still get to be a fighter or paladin) - on the other, if I decide to go for paladin I need wisdom...so...I choose Inspiring Leader if I can be a fighter with it and not be stuck with bard levels. Probably not going with paladin since spells are fiddly, but lets keep the options open, right?

OOC: Quentin doesn't HAVE to raise his CHA. Not yet at least. Yeah, it helps make the most of Inspire Leadership, but you have enough CHA to use it.

And as for being a Bard, this is just your free feat. You can most certainly be a fighter or Paladin with Inspire Leadership. Bard will just take that skill and make you specialize in it.

The professor nods to Quentin and turns to the women. "Follow me."

He leads them away to different areas. He introduces Dariana to another elf, an old one with grey hair and wrinkles in his eyes, named Farinhas. He takes Dariana aside, willing to impart some of his wisdom to her. His private lessons with her over the coming days tightens her aim, and allows her to shoot much further than she could before, and with much more accuracy.

He takes Asherah aside himself, and begins showing her little tips on how to keep her weapons from hitting each other, and makes her practice stowing them and drawing them together. He grumbles that she doesn't quite know how to use her weapons, but at least now she has the skills to use them both at once, which according to him, can be just as useful, especially with their enchantments picking up the slack where her skill is lacking.

Quentin heads to the School of Skill, which doesn't have a set building. Instead, it is located everywhere. The branch he is directed to is in a theater, where he meets a rather cheerful, stout halfling named Priori, who is teaching an Acting class. Once he hears Quentin's request, to learn how to inspire others and lead with effectiveness, the halfling nearly giggles with joy! He begins immediately with private tutoring lessons designed to help him develop his presence, as well as learning psychology behind what makes people feel inspired, and how to read others to know how to inspire them!

OOC: Quentin can now record that he has Inspiring Leadership, Asherah has Duel Wielder (which gives +1 AC, don't forget), and Dariana has Sharpshooter.

OOC: Everyone has their feat. Now, you may decide what you do in the Academy. You have effectively earned "Downtime", as per Adventure League Rules, where you may study or do whatever you want.

Note, Asherah and Quentin may have their inner power awakened, if they wish. Their process is the same as the others, but they won't get a Feat from it. They will merely awaken their inner power and open up the Sorcerer school. This is the only way either of them can learn any kind of Arcane Magic. As for reasons why, Quentin knows he can access much more of his Genie heritage if he were to do so, and if Asherah wants to further her studies of the Divine, then she may want to awaken her inner power as well. If neither of you want to pursue that right now, that's up to you. Dariana is more than welcome to learn Arcane Magic at any time.

Professor Haught looks down at Grody, "Electricity. Lighting. You obviously have an affinity for it, which is why you were able to pass so quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a bit of blue or bronze dragon in you."

Grody's head tilts even more at the description and then the words seem to click. "Sky fire?" His maw clicks shut at the thought of actually being descended from dragons, which is still a new concept to him.

"Grody has afinty with sky fire...." And with that, the little Kobold wanders off to ponder for a while.

Once school starts, he sets to work in the school of the Arcane, learning how to draw forth and and control the power of dragons. He focusses on learning to draw forth the power of lightning, or 'sky fire' as he calls it.

Squirrels are evil!
