D&D 5E 5e has everything it needs for Dark Sun

You can't really keep them separate, because if you do then you really weaken the PC. Multiclassing becomes really bad at that point compared to other combinations.
Already what happens with Warlocks.
Also, I hope it's clear to everyone that if you want psion printed by WotC, it's going to use existing spells rather than reprint-with-alterations like 3.5

Will they reprint them? Probably not. Could they easily put out a layover system for improving existing spells? Yep. They could.

In many cases I think Psionic powers might be better handled much the same way as Warlock powers. I really don't like point systems, a personal taste thing. Just a little too math-y and abstract for my tastes. In fact, if I were going to design a 5E Psionicist, the Warlock is the chassis I'd use, no question. Spell slots for the big guns and other powers using per day or ongoing gating, plus powers, like the Warlock, that can stack as the PC levels.

Regarding pyrokinesis=pyromancy, I consider elementalism to be its own kind of magic. Elementalism is about matter, where psionics is about mind. Despite the popculture trope of the "fire starter", I prefer the Psion to lack elemental powers. Elementalism feels more like alchemical wizards or primordial druids

I only like it for fire, cold and electricity. Pyrokinesis and Cryokinesis is using Telekinesis to vibrate or hold matter. Electricity is nervous system brain stuff. No acid, poison, thunder, water, or earth powers.

It wouldn't be my favorite but I can live with a psion that uses Psionic Energy Die to boost spells and cantrips.

Psionic Powers usable at will that may drain PED
Psionic Energy Dice recharge on a short or long rest.
Psionic Discplines that replace spells or effects that recharge on a long rest.

This is why I don;t think 5e has everything for Dark Sun

Bestiary might be a sticking point. Dark Sun has a deep alternate bestiary, and 5e setting book design just doesn't have room for it. Past editions obviously just had more books, but that's not an option in 5e unless they do a sequel to Volo's/Mordenkain's that's a soft Dark Sun bestiary.

Note, it is a must that the Psion uses normal mechanics.

So for example. A multiclass Psion/Wizard should have a clear and easy way to convert Wizard slots into Psion points, and visaversa.
Nah, we play magic and psionics is different. would prefer no converting between the two.

No Hydrokinesis?

Why Cryo and not Hydro? Why can't you use telekinesis to vibrate or hold liquid water if you can do it for solid water? What about Geokinesis and holding earth?

Actually, for the 3e Psion, acid and poison are prominent in various psychometabolism powers, such as when shapeshifting into a nightmarish form.

I dont want to especially encourage such damage types, but they are at least as legitimate an option as fire and cold.

Of course, the central damage types of the Psion are force and psychic. But for other damage types like fire and poison, it seems ok to have an option that can choose one other damage type to then modify any Psion spell with the force or psychic damage type.

So the psion pyrokineticist will feel different from a pyromancer, because the kineticist damage will be fire AND force, or fire AND psychic. It feels flavorfully vivid, for example, to launch a psychic attack that induces a nightmare of being on fire, while the body actually catches fire.
