5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

all those ( Proficiency in DEX, CON saves and Perception skill plus blindsight 10 ft., darkvision 60 ft. senses.) sound fine. Could question how a diurnal dragonfly has darkvision but not fussed really

Well they're fantastical draconic-insectile monsters not overly embiggened arthropods so I'm not fussed about them being diurnal.

While their 2E AD&D were had Day as their activity cycle, their BECMI incarnation made no mention of when they are active, plus their first published appearance in XL1 - Quest for the Heartstone (1984) had the Mystaran Dragonflies living in a dungeon's cave.

No daylight for them underground!

I guess we could create an Underdark Variant like we did the regular Giant Dragonflies, but I'd rather give them all darkvision and blindsight like a Wyrmling.

ok will get them on dndbeyond pronto

We need to finish the magenta bits first, that is the Descriptions and Bonus Actions.

I'm fine with Dashing Flight as with a 50 ft. move as it's basically just Dash that only works with its fly speed.

I'm thinking we can do a moderately elaborate Description in the first (Black) dragonfly and then have a simple version in the others that has a few notes on the differences of that variant but is mostly "See black mystaran dragonfly for details."

"Dragonflies are the result of an arcane magical process involving the infusion of draconic essence into the diminutive insect of the same name. The magical namesake has become a 4 foot long insectoid with a vaguely dragonlike cast, otherwise resembling its progenitor with four laterally outstretched membranous wings."

That seems a bit too specific, as if there's some technique a wizard can use to create them. How about:

Magical crossbreeds of normal dragons and insects, a mystaran dragonfly closely resembles a regular dragonfly about 3 to 4 feet long. Its head has subtle draconic features as well as a globular pair of large insectile eyes. Mystaran dragonflies are swift and agile flyers with chitinous exoskeletons almost as tough as dragon scales. There are six known types, in order of size and power these are white, black, green, blue, red, and gold. They possess weak breath weapons that do damage corresponding to their dragon variety: cold for a white dragonfly, fire and poison for a gold dragonfly, et cetera.
