D&D 5E 5E Survivor - Deities Final Round: Anubis Wins!

@grandine I know, right? I saw this coming a few hundred posts ago as people upvoting D&D deities were also downvoting D&D deities while those voting for historicals were primarily voting down D&D originals. Of all the survivor polls, this one has surprised me the most. I've never used a historical deity in a game I've run, and didn't realize how popular they were.
Personally I didn't really know most of the D&D ones (what kind of name for a god is Boccob?!) so after a while I stayed out of that and just went for the Historical ones :p

The difference being a lot of people either grew up hearing or reading about historical deities (and historical polytheism is on the rise) while the D&D gods are from a game a lot of people here play. At a guess, people have more of a connection to the historical rather than the D&D.

There are many D&D gods I really like, but only one actually made it to the finale and she was voted off early. I like Selune a lot, but she can’t compete with that Guardian of the Dead Gods in the Astral Sea in my eyes.

And both of them are better then a god who is destined to die in a self-fulfilling prophecy from a beast he abused and chained up for most of his life.

Right. The historical gods have legends. The D&D gods only have lore. Stories are more impactful and lasting than bland details.

I wonder if having had a bunch of real people worship them over long periods of time in real life serves as some pretty good beta testing for what people are drawn too?

Don't look at me, I've been keeping my votes on the non-historical ones. (Except for one Odin vote, which I'm going to blame on bourbon.)

If everyone had just freaking stopped downvoting Yondalla because they hate what is good in life, then we wouldn't be having these problems. Instead we're left with war, death, and who knows what.

On an unrelated note, I now have Randy Newman's "Short People" and "God's Song" fighting for my brain.
