Proficiency specifically? No. But in a level based game, numbers should go up IMO.Do we really need Proficiency? We have ability scores, adv/disadv, is Proficiency a variable that added value to your game?

Oh, I got that: it does that, too, the whole Schtick of the Fighter-y career path in Plotweaver is using Fpcus to do stuff like damage on a miss, etc. very much like the Monk...but without specific cultural connotations or limitations.Yeah sorry I'm talking about the Monk "Focus" thing in 2024 specifically - how it could be a resource for a Fighter-like class to do crazy stuff as well.
Yeah, given that the primary target market is 12 year olds, who were now born almost at the same time 5E came out...I dont think its coming. I think from here on out its updates like 5.24,

WotC doesn't need to coax older players who may have gotten bored of D&D-isms, they just need to freshen things up to provide a sufficiently D&D-ish experience to attract new teens so periodic art and prese tation refreshes with popular light rule refreshes is realistically the future for a few decades, IMO.
12 year olds today have more money than I ever had, and I could still buy the occasional D&D book with saved up chore and birthday money.Maybe, but most 12 year olds don't have money.
I think what everyone has missed (and you can correct me if I'm wrong), but the core issue you're attempting to address is not proficiency but that the plusses may be too much overall? That can certainly be an issue at mid-higher levels.Do we really need Proficiency? We have ability scores, adv/disadv, is Proficiency a variable that added value to your game?
This was one of the rare problems 5E actually solved.I think what everyone has missed (and you can correct me if I'm wrong), but the core issue you're attempting to address is not proficiency but that the plusses may be too much overall? That can certainly be an issue at mid-higher levels.
We have already addressed this somewhat earlier in the thread, where players feel obligated to max out their abilities with the ASI's before selecting feats thus getting that +5 rather early on, before even the proficiency.
Enough to buy D&D? Pretty normal, with birthday/holiday gift money. D&D is a cheap hobby that can go far per dollar with time...which 12 hear olds have.Maybe, but most 12 year olds don't have money.
