D&D General 6E But A + Thread

In that case, are you giving out metagame advantages to the player of the weaker concept?

There are plenty of superhero systems that do what you're saying here, as an example, but those systems are also oriented towards telling stories (as opposed to overcoming challenges) with resolution systems that determine overall results, not just the effectiveness of a particular ability.
One assumes the no magic person has some other ability or advantage to make up for it, more or less. "Balance" is an abstract concept and a moving target.

The weaker concept should be weaker, and should be purposefuly designed that way IMO.

If we are talking about what I would like in 6E it is more of a storygaming focus than the current system encourages.

I really dislike milestone. I do it under duress.

Whereas I'd rather not get XP from killing things.

How a hypothetical 6E would deal with XP and leveling is another interesting question. Milestones definitely work better for the style of adventures that WotC has produced for 5E, while counting XP from challenges is better for sandboxes and other non-linear styles of play. 6E would need to accommodate both, of course, but with more guidance and parity than 5E was able to offer.

Maybe, since XP is a meta element anyway, they could go to a per session reward system. Groups could decide how long in real time they wanted to wait between levels and do it that way. For the much vaunted West Marches style, showing up would maximize level gains. Once would have to decide whether to dock folks for not showing, though. Do you really want to punish Alex because their sitter canceled?

Again, can't you just play a game with a more storygaming focus? Must that game be called D&D?

Maybe, but I really wish folks would stop assuming they have the right to speak for large groups of people they don't know.

The thread is a hypothetical 6e. To not consider the largest (most likely) cohort of "D&D" players, would be folly. If you dont think the vast majority would balk at 'Elf' instead of 'Elf Fighter' well...I think they clearly would.
