D&D General 6E But A + Thread

What do you think? What would your preferred hypothetical 6E look like?

Jared Sinclair's 6e (and its many fan-created supplements). It was fabulous. I say "was" because following some controversy he apparently pulled it from sale. Anyhow, it didn't resemble any edition of D&D mechanically, but it delivered all of the core things that D&D does, simply with a different resolution mechanic.

So how do you do this? Roll a d6 and subtract 3 to give you -2 to +3 on every ability?

People may not like the default 3-18 ability scores, but using multiple dice improves central tendancy and decreases variation.
Given nearly every game has gotten rid of them, it's not hard at all.

A fair critique that I don’t have a good answer to offhand.

And yet we have the possible example of Sir Cuisinart in a towering fit of Rage…😉

Is Rage (su) or (sp) in 5e?
i feel like this would be have horrible consequences for martials, we already have them so limited to barely 'guy at the gym' standards and stating in such plain language that 'magic is the only way to be exceptional' would be the final nail in the coffin for worthwhile nonmagical characters

I feel like a lot of these discussions tend to veer away from making D&D a better game and turn into making D&D more like a different game they like more. Going back to just four classes, or centering the gameplay around a meta-currency, dropping higher level support... this is all stuff other games do successfully but things I cannot imagine being acceptable in a numbered edition of D&D.

Especially after how much crap 4th Edition got for Roles and ADEU.

I can see a striped down 4-8 classes D&D being appealing to some. But it won't have the same impact as say 5E.

and Rope Trick and Tiny Hut make that attrition pretty hard as you basically have a refill on demand

Either they need to remove these / make them a lot harder to achieve, or they need to move from a daily attrition model to a per encounter model, as little as I like those in theory
Or make the refills incomplete. You don't get all your hit points back next morning, just 10% of your maximum. You don't get all your spells back, just 2x your level in slots or something.

Rope Trick needs its duration greatly reduced; I like it as a short-term hiding place but not as a campsite. The 5e version of Leo's Hut needs to go, period

Instead of thinking about rules, I want to think about the training process of the developers.
For example, I think the developers should participate in UFC style matches to better understand how unarmed combat works.
Or go spend a week camping and hiking. Or maybe go forge their own swords???
