D&D General 6E But A + Thread

The best way to do
Why would they ever do that?

WotC wants you to buy books with PC options. That's why they put Everything books and PC options in monster books. They are never going to say "The Greyhawk setting only has X, Y, and Z" options because then everyone who runs it says "cool, I don't have to ever buy another splatbook again". WotC is at best going to place soft bans (ie Theros or Krynn) but never endorse hard bans.
And I'm not gonna stop them because that's the naughty word I like

To me that's just word salad.
What does that mean to you.
way too overpowered abilities and anime themed. The starting point was
Martials should get anime naughty word by level 3 at the latest
and that is beyond what I want at the top level, let alone the starting level.

I don’t want my starting character to jump from tree branch to tree branch ‘Crouching Tiger’ style, and then gain abilities from there.

To show the flexibility of the system in telling much more deliberate stories with curated content instead of a grab bag of options that make less sense.

"I have an idea for a LotR like setting."
"Cool, I'll play a half vampire half Goo person."
"...."
I absolutely love that sentiment, but it is IMO deeply unrealistic to hope the current IP holders would ever go there. But, this is about imaginary wishes, so why not?

It is still to close to 5e 1.0 for them. It still swims in the same waters. They would prefer Hasbro/Wotc charted course to a new sea.
By course a new sea, I think he would want WotC to abandon 50 years of IP that he cares about and create all new stuff he can ignore. Start from scratch.

So you were not responding to 5e, but the posters preference for superhero wuxia starting at 3rd level? Can we agree that it is not the feel of the current system?

Again, I'm not asking why DMs would want highly curated, hyper specific settings work limited species, classes and monster, I'm saying WOTC has no reason to nurture that because limited options don't sell splat books. They may give some lip service to DMs customizing their world, but they are never going to outright tell players/DMs "this doesn't exist/isn't playable".
WotC barely makes splat books.

And yet... I think 80-90% of groups wouldn't even notice a problem. And indeed some significant fraction of that 80-90% would probably think it was better. Because a huge percentage of people playing D&D just don't play it attritionally, don't even think about that aspect of the game much, and primarily do 1-3 fights per adventuring day, if that.
I agree with your read on the public. Which is why I want WotC to just pull the trigger and get it done already.
