A few questions about Chain Spell

*points to the other posting above*

EDIT: This doesn't make much sense now, I posted it, when Pax had replied after my last posting, which clarified, that Flame Arrow creates multiple bolts, but still saying there is only one, before his next posting, which replied directly to the one referred to here. Uhm... Nevermind! :)

What about chained Enervation? Full effect on each secondary target?

It does not inflict damage, so the 1d4 would not be halved, but that surely sounds pretty powerful.

I would think it would effect the Save DC, since it isn't Damage.

But, on the other hand, it does have a dice roll. But, for a 7th level slot, it better have Some effect.

So to speak, Enervation would fall under the beneficial category, as the subject gains 1d4 levels... ok, negative levels, but still! ;)

You have to take this literally. Note for instance the clarification of persistant spell which prevents you from persistanting a touch spell.

So:
No magic missile (doesn't specify a single target)
No ray spells (effect is ray, not single target)
No lightning spell (area effect spell)
No flame arrow (either specifies 1 target per level OR 1 fiery bolt, similar to a ray)
No personal-only spells (target is caster, not single target)

However you can chain these spells, which are particularly good/wierd:
Magic jar (?? - sends a group of creatures into a prepared magical jar, leaving their bodies lifeless??)
Magic mouth (gives a bunch of creatures magic mouths which speak a message on a certain trigger)
Maze (ooo - do they all get put in the same maze? I choose me, my party, and the BBEG as targets!)
The power-word spells (each target has to beat the full hp limit!)
Sending (mailing list!)
Shield other (take half the damage from your entire party! Go AOE)
Trap the soul (do all the creatures end up in the same gem?)

An immediate re-post was frankly more conducive to laziness on my part, than editing the prior post to take into account my corrected understanding of Flame Arrow.

Hehe, doesn't matter, tho, as I was posting that during the same time you were answering on my Flame Arrow clarification post. :)

Interesting observation, Saeviomagy, that ray spells have the ray as a target and not a single target per se. Altho, I guess, that is debatable still, whether those would qualify for spells with a single target (it's still only one subject being affected by the spell).
