A few quick questions

"So the halfling would take a -4 non-proficiency penalty for using an improvised weapon. He'd take a -2 penalty for using a weapon one size larger than him. The critical would drop from 19-20/x2 to 20/x2 as an improvised weapon. And since it's being treated as a two-handed medium weapon and he's small, he can't wield the weapon at all.
I'm not so sure I follow this. If you're treating the greatsword as an improvised weapon, would the -2 penalty for using a weapon one size larger and the size restriction come into play? What if it were a medium sized chair instead?

It says that with an improvised weapon, you determine its size category by comparing it to the list.

The weapon a Medium greatsword is most similar to is a Medium greatsword... therefore its size category is Medium. Thus, for a Small character, the size restriction applies.

If it were a chair built for a Medium person, I'd consider that most similar to a Medium club. A human can swing it in one hand, so it's either a Medium one-handed or Small two-handed weapon. But I wouldn't consider it to have 1d8 damage potential, so that means it's not a Small greatclub; Medium club is the weapon that fits. And so, again, a Small character would take a -2 on top of the -4.

K. But still, you can pick up a greatsword of that relative size to a halfling. Say nothing else is availiable, What kinda penalty would he take?
A halfling (who is Small) can wield a greatsword sized for a Small character without penalty. He wields it just like a human would wield a greatsword size for a Medium character. This is the change (I call it a fix) in 3.5 that makes it easier to run different sized characters. Anyway, the Small greatsword does do less damage, however (just look it up in the table).

Does this answer your question?

Nevermind, This is hopeless. I can't seem to get my point across.

We got your point, you don't seem to understand ours.

Halfling=small
Medium great sword = two handed for a medium creature

For the halfling to weild the medium greatsword it would be (hypothetically) a three handed weapon, (bump it up one type) so he can not weild it at all as a weapon.

He's too small, answer is no.

With regard to one handed medium weapons, see previous posts for modifiers. Small weapons, irregardless, can be weilded by a small character with bonuses and penalties depending on that characters feats.

Well, maybe I don't get your point...
-What are the weapon proficiencies or classes of the halfling?
-What weapon type and size are you trying to use?

If you don't get a proper answer to your question, we have failed you.
