D&D 5E A Game of Feats

Personally, I hope that the new feats will be more game changers than simply "More bigger better numbers". Similar to how Charge, Spring Attack, and Riposte work.

So:

Into the Fray
(as current improved initiative) + (as current charge)

Prescient
(as current improved initiative) + you cannot be surprised + you gain a +5 bonus* on Wisdom checks to notice traps and hidden enemies.

* Advantage would require the DM revealing there were hidden things. This way he just treats your result as a bigger #.

Balance-wise, it's probably best to compare the value of +1 to your most important stat. It's also best to move away from initiative since it's one of those big hot button issues.

There is no way I'd take +1 bonus to ability score over your version of Improved Initiative.
Looks like everyone has a different opinion how such feats should like, power-level wise. It will be very interesting to read feedback on forums when they finally show the feats!

keterys, want to try redesign Lunge? it is the current feat in the game. I have my own idea for it and I'm curious what someone else would come up with.

This is a weird one. We were told that feats will get stronger at higher levels. At the same time, at higher levels improving ability scores will be less desirable, because characters will have their most important score already maxed out. If anything feats should get weaker at high levels, but that's counter intuitive and won't happen. So how will they reconcile those two shifts in power in opposite directions?

I think they're just assuming that people stop taking ability score feats at high level and move on with it.

They also can do feats that amplify over time. Perhaps they start at Xth benefit, but you get Y at level 9 kinda thing.

Anyhow
Lunge -
Gain a +5 bonus to speed.
As an action, you can make a single melee attack. You may move 5 feet without provoking before and/or after the attack and your reach is increased by 5 feet for the attack.

Aside - I'd make bonuses from everything not stack, so you can safely litter little bonuses into feats like that.

Similar to mine, but in my version it gives +10 to speed but only in combat and once per combat per opponent lunge attack is surprising and grants advantage.

Your turn to pick a feat for someone else to redo.

That's simple. "Old" feats are much weaker than those new ones will be, so every feat must be made stronger.

Plus, Mike tweated that new feats will be "tremendous". That tells me a mere advantage on initiative checks is not going to cut it.
I'm not saying that the bonus should be higher, but I firmly believe that imp init feat will give something extra on top of that.
For example,

Improved Initiative
You have advantage on initiative rolls.
At the end of your turn, you may make an initiative roll and use it from now on if you want.
Whenever you roll 20 for initiative, you gain one additional action on your next turn.

Now that's a good feat.

Oh...I get it. Sorry, I misread your original post. We are all working to make Improved Initiative a super feat that would be equal to +1 attribute bonus. Got it. Thanks.

Yes, precisely.

Jeff, your idea of skill die to init might work too. Nice thing about skill die is that it makes a feat scale with levels naturally.

Since keterys is reluctant, the next feat iiiiis: Defensive Ward

My take on it:
Prerequisites: Ability to cast spells
As a reaction, you may give yourself and any number of allies within 30 ft. advantage on all saves against magic and resistance to all damage caused by spells until end of current turn.
