A mystery race ?

"Changlings were mentioned heavily during Gen Con, then not again."

- I hadn't realised that. I'm still sticking by my original forecast - and like some others here, I think the Changeling would fit in very well with the new planar setup.

Mind you, I think Kenku are an excellent and original (could well be proved wrong here) concept. I especially like the flightless-and-yearning-to-fly bit.

Failing that, there's always the D&D-specific small race that everyone loves and no one has mentioned... ;)

Drow! Drow! Drow!

Am I the only one who likes drow on these boards?

Nope, not alone.

I think drow work equally well as heroes and villains. Just like humans.

I can only hope that 4e is where we finally see drow as a core race.

But don't they take a Level Adjustment? Course maybe 4e will do away with level adjustments for all we know. But I don't think they should include any race with a level adjustment in the core rules. YMMV.

Unless it's the Loxo of course.

Tieflings in 3.x have a level adjustment: +1.

I'm putting money on the fact that Level Adjustment races will get their racial goodies throughout their class levels, just like other races.

Illumians maybe? This would give a human "option" along with your "standard" human. I also thought I saw something on their inclusion in 4E somewhere.

Sorry, I can't stand Illumians. "Yes, we're humans with lights around our heads, who like to mess with regular humans in these weird screwed-up cabals that are just asking for a beatdown."

While they are an example of a race with abilities that scale over level (albeit with not-terribly-good implementation), I can't think of one I'd rather see less.

I mean, I'd sooner play a halfling.

I don't really feel Changlings should be introduced into the Player's Handbook. It simply doesn't seem to really mesh with the foundations of the general game.

Reserving special races, such as the Changling, Warforged (and even the Eladrin in their current incarnation) should stick with SPLAT books.
