).Personally, I don't like the idea of giving up spell slots for what the Archmage has to offer; however, I do not see the Archmage as being underpowered. I think that you and your group might find it easier to create a entirely new prestige class that embodies a master of arcane magic than it would to take the existing Archmage and house-ruling the parts you don't like.
