Once in the hold Ramas looks around satisfied they are alone."You know of the sea, that shark was being controlled by someone. Do you know of anything that could do that? I mean where in the middle of nowhere. Personally I think our good captain is a bloodthirsty pirate and someone wants him dead and by extension us." Ramas tone is hushed and his eyes dart around looking for ears.

"There are several things that could do that. One is polymorph, but if that is the case, the caster could capsize us in other ways. There are marine races that could do that. Elves, Sahuagin, Aboleths - although I wouldn't expect these on the open sea - Merrow and many others. And all or most of them can speak with animals via spells or natural affinity. This being a shark, I'd say we need to prepare to be boarded by sahuagin.

As for the captain, he has no reputation for piracy or he wouldn't be here" - Luthor motions to the manacles hanging from his belt.
"He was chosen as reputable captain with penchant for risk taking. He may have questionable morals - in that taking everything from a ship is legal as long as he didn't attack first - but obviously not smart enough to NOT do that in the middle of the ocean. You have to understand that sailors are hard bunch. I already told you, mercy has no place here where every drop of water and ration of food is accounted for exactly the crew and ships passengers. It could seem strange that you cannot catch the food on the way, but open seas are really empty, it's like hunting in the desert. It can be done, but it takes time and effort. And with time comes the cost in water which is also limited."

Ramas mumbles something under his breath "Sahuagin boarding hmmm? That won't be good I have expended most of my magical energy on the shark.
I understand what you say about the see being no place for mercy but there was no need to engage the pirates at all, they where dead in the water without sails. I still don't like the captain sailors don't typically carry around magic swords."

"Yeah, I think we all did. I had to call on High Captains direct intervention to kill the beast at the last moment."
Shrugging, young priest continues
"We are better off with dead shark and functional ship than magical energy conserved and in rowboats. I don't like the captain either, he shouldn't have rammed that ship. But once he did, mercy was thrown out overboard. It is bad idea to question captains decisions on his own ship. Especially in front of crew. I know you're not the sailor and he may be lenient because we're representing the city in this expedition, but heed my words, I know what I'm talking about."

He puts his hands onto slender mans shoulders
"He is perfectly within his rights to confine you to your quarters - and trust me, that is no fun on long journeys or even have you dropped off in a lifeboat if you challenge his orders. You're not a crew member so he cannot charge with mutiny which would mean death penalty, but his word is Law here. City laws don't apply here and my powers as a watch member is non-existent here. Any concerns you have, take it with him in private or with first mate. You can have us as support, as a concerned group. But understand that ship runs on mutual respect, keyword, mutual. You don't have to like him, but respect his ability that got him chosen for this. He is no common captain chosen simply because he was closest, cheapest or some such. This is dangerous mission and he was chosen accordingly."

OOC: Note that I'm talking out of my head right now, I wasn't with you at the start and since the boards crashed I have no idea how you got on the ship or how the captain was chosen

"Oh he wouldn't confine me I dont cope well in confinement. I believe the cpt got picked as he was the biggest peacock in the room, same reason he rammed that ship he has to be the hero, I know the type well. On the subject of respect, it is,earned not given."'

With this Ramas heads off to his bunk.

OOC: Ramas is just butt hurt that kunkka ruined his attempt at being the hero by ramming the ship. I'm sure he wont always be this insufferable

"Yes, earned. But it works both ways, Ramas. He has no reason to respect any of the landlubbers. Which is all of you, I guess. And I'm too young. He uses me, but doesn't respect me. That will change. Same with you." Luthor says to retreating back of the Sorcerer. He looks over the hole in the ship since he is already down here. When he returns, he nods to the tiefling.
"Good work down there."

He looks from the captain and first mate. "We should prepare for the follow up attack. The shark didn't attack us out of hunger."

Back on his bunk Ramas continues to teach Strix common, the goblin was making excellent progress and could string together entire sentences... they almost made sense. Still the goblin was undeterred when the sailors laughed when he asked to eat a dish instead of fish.

With the shark dead, Arjhan moved about the crew, helping treat any injuries that might have occurred during the attack, offering words of encouragement. Then he went to find the captain.

Finding the captain back at the wheel, the large green dragonborn cleric approached. “So we have no idea who was behind that attack?” he asked. “What do you know of these waters? Any communities under the sea here? Also, do you happen to have any maps of the settlement and the surrounding area to which we are heading? Any maps of this new world would be helpful.
