A Party with no Cleric/Druid?

I've played in games where the bard or paladin was the main party healer. If the group is high-level (or rich) enough, they can afford to load up on cure potions and not even need a spellcaster for healing.

I'm in one group where every character except the dwarven wizard/rogue has cure light wounds on their spell list (rangers, bard, paladin, etc), and we have a load of CLW wands. Hmm, now that I think of it, the dwarf could go for UMD to be able to use one also.

(BTW, we also do have a healing druid. But the druid is way below the cleric in healing. Especially w/ only core books. Even he carries a wand.)

IMC, the party has no cleric, no druid, no bard or anything...they simply have no acess to divine healing at all, and they're doing just fine.

I have a monk, 2 fighters and a ranger (who took the non spellcasting option from CW)

They're now 8 level and no one died up to now. They may have had like, 5 potions of healing during all this levels, but mainly they have to make sure they stay alive, cause generally there's no more healing than a few night's sleep.

I'm not an easy DM (actually I'm a bastard), and I have put them trough very hard fights, I have not fudged dices once to keep a player alive, and if I have to, I'll kill them without a second thought.

Not to mention the time they all got that disease from dire rats, and stayed in bed for a week.

The secret is to use good tatics, be afraid of what can kill you, use combat expertise to it's maximum almost every round, not let yourself be flanked, and, if the situation demands it...RUN!

It can be done...nicely done actually...and my campain is a living proof of that
 

I've been in a game where the only healers were a bard/sorcerer and a bard/paladin. A ranger eventually joined the ranks and, for a short time, clerics. But, the cleric was a cursed class, for anyone who chose it dropped out for one reason or another.

In low levels, that group spent a lot of time resting. One or two hours adventuring followed by a week of rest healing. After a while of this, the GM wondered why neither bard had taken cure minor as one of their cantrips. Once it was pointed out that cure minor wasn't on their spell list, it was house ruled in. Those cure minors sped up the party's healing greatly.

Cure sticks are your friend.
 

I ran a game for a sorcerer and a psion once. Went pretty well. Not too much in the way of potions, just a good bit of running when the time was right.
 


I'm soloing with a ranger wizard eldritch knight.

My healing is limited to resting, cure light wounds wands, summoning that avorial or whatever it is called, and teleporting to a friendly temple.

I'm doing fine. Even against lots of undead when I had no area of effect spells prepared.
 

A wand of cure x wounds can make up for cleric for a long time. At higher levels a staff with healing and greater restoration on it can pretty much make up for a cleric if you have a PC who either has use magic device or takes one level of cleric.
 

If you are just looking a Healing Magics:

Then a Cleric With Turn Undead is the Ultimate Healing Machine (as it can Spontaneosuly cast Healing Spells).

The more you go to Druids/Bards/Paladins/Rebuking Clerics, the less Healing there is to go around.

A party without a dedicated healing mcahine is usually OK, the just need to keep the Charge In-Kill Everything & worry about healing later tatics to a minumum.

Barbarian Heavy Parties tend to use up a lot more healing magics than Fighter Heavy.

Also keep in my a Higher AC leads to less damage (as does Evasion, DR, SR, etc).

Parties without clerics tend to develop differetnly, but are no less capable of survival.

However, Palyers ussed to having Dedicated Healing Machine had better learn to change tatics quick, or they are going to die.
 

I'm playing in a group consisting of a halfling rogue, a half-drow ranger (can't cast healing spells yet), a pixie rogue/wizard and a wyrmling brass dragon.

Most of the time, the party is running around with some hp loss and/or ability damage (the halfling stayed two days in bed to recover from quasit poison that lowered her Dex).
The pixie was killed by a vampire: he lost 4 HD (from 3) because the undead scored a crit. The pixie was brought back to life by a cleric later.
So the group has to ask cleric or druids for healing, and has to pay for the service (this is why the dragon prefers to sleep a day and recover instead of giving gold to someone else).
