a thieves progression

Walking into the tavern, you see a very burly Orc working the bar. Glancing in your direction he quickly looks back down to the beer stein he is washing. People mull around as per normal, the total count only reaching 15 people.

There is a side door, apparently leading to the alley way, guarded by two well armed and armored dwarves. A large black skull adorns there chest pieces. They glare at each patron one after another, eyes finally landing on you, to then continue there watch.

As you notice this the Orc, without looking up, says...

"is there something Bartok can do for you folk?"

h then glances towards a piece of folded map parchment on the bar.

Setting two sovereigns on the counter next to Bartok, Jack gave him a smile and said "A pint o' stout, loaf o' rye and a good bowl o' stew for me's a good start me friend!"

Letting Tulus fend for himself, he nabbed his window seat, his Bug now watching the room behind him.

Placing his own gold next to Jack's, Tulus follows him to the table, leaving the bartender with a simple "Same for me". Sitting down at the table, Tulus glances around the room, looking casual to observers, but nervous inside. Turning back to Jack, he cocks an eyebrow and says "So...this could complicate things a bit, eh?"

As you begin speaking, a young human girl walks towards your table, carrying your food and drinks. placing them on the table she turns back to look at you. Catching your eye she glances down, and then quickly walk away.

Jack managed to spot and read the note as it fell to the ground.

"Welp, if you're worried about complications, you might wanna skip the stew and get some more fiber... I don't want to endure another night of you with the Flamin' runs." He gave Tulus a wink, then started eating, using the bread instead of a spoon to eat his stew.

[sblock="Percetion Check"]1d20+9=11 Note? What note? [/sblock]

Ignoring Jack's jibe, Tulus set about eating his meal. If Jack wasn't worried, he must have had some reason. Tulus was sure that Jack would have made some warning if there was an immediate threat, so whatever let him feel relaxed could likely wait for a more private place.

[sblock="OOC"]You may need to give me a bit of a more direct hint if you want me to burn that note for ya, since apparantly I'm so engrossed with my food that I can't notice a piece of parchment being dropped on the floor...[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC] I'm assuming the note is not directed at us, but at the thief's club members.[/sblock]

Stretching a bit, he let himself look around the bar, noting the parchement the Orc was looking at, and the two guards. Taking a bite of bread, he talked with his mouth full (under the assumption that listeners would assume the garble of thief's cant would be because of the chunk of bread in my mouth)

"I need everyone's eyes off me for 10 seconds."

Looking around the bar himself, Tulus picks out an occupied table on the opposite side of the room from the guarded side door. Muttering to Jack "How's this?", he points from underneath his table at his target, and calls upon the power of hellfire which he controls. A moment later, the table bursts into flames, startling the patrons nearby, and especially those seated at the table.

[sblock="Stealth Check"]Stealth check to keep people from realising he set the table on fire. (1d20+9=28)[/sblock]

[sblock="Damage to Table"]Fire damage to table from "Hellish Rebuke" (1d6+4=9)[/sblock]

---

[sblock="OOC"]Used "Hellish Rebuke" At-Will power on table. In case you're wondering, Hellish Rebuke is an attack versus Ref, so since I attacked a table, I figure I don't need an attack roll for that (table is unlikely to dodge out of the way). Also, the description for Hellish Rebuke makes no mention of the fire shooting from my finger, unlike "Vampiric Embrace" and "Fiery Bolt", so I take that to mean that my target bursts into flames without leaving a trail to me, so the stealth check is purely to make sure that people who might have been watching me at the time didn't see me point at the table, which then exploded.[/sblock]

(ooc) yah the attack on the table was legit, with no need to roll for attack against it.

(OC)

As a table in the far side of the room bursts into flame, patrons jump and run for the doors. Tables go flying as does food and drink.

"THE GUARDS!!! GET THE GUARD!!!"

you hear a man yell from the door.

The bar tender does not move, but reaches for a small vile under the table, and begins rubbing a clear liquid on his body. He reaches for the paper by his side, and moves it to rest on the bar in front of him. He stands behind the parchment defensively.

As Jack moves forward Bartok grabs the parchment and hands it to him. With a wink he walks towards the fire. With a wave of his hand and a slight mumble, the fire goes out. Moving onto the streets you overhear Bartok talking with the guards loudly, with pieces of thieves cant thrown in.

"Come now my friends! it was but a candle knocked over in drunken revelry. The fire is out, go to you duties, Bartok has seen fit to help you this day!"

read the note Jack

[sblock] My friends Jack and Tulus, you must realize you have set into motion things that now endanger the whole of the city. Meet me at the last heist. bring your masks. we will be waiting to clear up this mess.

"Subtle, Tulus. Very [fornicating!] subtle. Jack ran his fingers through the stubble on his head.

In his lifestyle, it didn't really matter how careful you are, word spread rather quickly. He gave up being surprised when people he never met knew his name, but it annoyed him nonetheless. Reading the note, he crumpled it up and dropped it in what's left of his stew.

"Sod it. Let's go home for a mite."
As he walked out the door, he made brief eye contact with the barkeep. Jack kept his face stone cold expressionless the whole while until he was nearly at the housing district.
