Aboard the Bebop...

Branduil

Hero
Since I don't see any threads on this, I thought I'd start a thread for all the Cowboy Bebop fans out there. Come here and talk about your favorite episodes, discuss the relationships between the characters, or debate Ed's gender(she's a girl). Also, you can talk about your favorite quotes. I'll start with some of mine:

"Don't leave stuff in the fridge" -Spike

-

"Don't know and have no opinion" -Jet

-

"I'm not a criminal. Wait, that makes me sound more like a criminal, doesn't it?" -Spike

-

Wen: Who are you?

"Just some suspicious guy" -Spike

-

"Deception may come naturally to women, but men live by iron codes of honor"

Faye: You don't really believe that, do you?

"I'm trying to real hard." -Jet

-

Spike: There's no beef in here. So you wouldn't really call it Bell Peppers and Beef, would you?

"Yes, I would." -Jet

-

"Angels that are forced out of heaven become Devils. You agree, don't you Spike?"

Spike: I'm just watching a bad dream I never wake up from.

"I'll wake you up right now." -Vicious

-

"There is nothing in this world to believe in." -Vicious

-

"Bang." -Spike

I just started watching this when the Toon network started showing it again. This is one heck of a show. Space noir.

I know that Ed is a girl, but why doesn't she have a nose?

I think the only answer I can give to this is... because she is Ed. :D

Don't you mean "Because Edward is Edward"?

Seriously, though, I think that's just the style they chose to draw her in, to accentuate her cartooniness... Ed is just the wacky comic relief in the show. And she does have a nose, but you can only see it in profile.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the greatness that is the music of Bebop. Feel free to discuss Yoko Kanno's musical genious.

So far, I watched the first 20 minutes of the movie, and recently the first three episodes. So far, I've enjoyed what I've seen - I can see why people enjoy it so much.

Wasn't there an episode where Spike stated that he couldn't stand "children, pets, and women with attitude?" :)

The one thing that does grab me in these episodes is the quality of the fight animations. While they have their own style, they definitely look fluid, and tell something about the character of the individuals that are fighting. Rarely in animation have I seen fighters assume an actual "ready" stance and let the opponent come to them - most of the time they just take off in a kick or a punch. :)

The only thing I hated was Ein's ability to (A) Wake up from a sleep-gas inside of a minute after being gassed, (B) roll out of a car at what looked like 100 miles per hour, and (C) be caught on the windshield of Spike's space-car, WITHOUT death, much less injury. Unless there is an episode I haven't seen yet that discusses Ein's immortality. :)

But overall, I enjoy the series and hope to see some more.

Spike: "Ya know, Jet, there are three things in this universe I can't stand."

Jet: "Oh? What's that?"

Spike: "Kids. Pets. And women with attitude. ... So why are they all on our ship???"

Heh. Ein certainly isn't a normal dog, but overall not much is said until the end of the series.

Near the end of the series, there's an episode where we find out just what those scientists meant by 'data dog'. The Bebop crew need to hack into a computer system that's using a VR headset. Unfortunately, Jet is nearly hypnotized by the set until Ein intervenes. They finally decide to put the headset on Ein while Edward hacks the system... instead, when Ein is put under, the dog starts hacking the system. :D No one notices but Edward, though.

The Woo-style standoff between Spike and Vicious in Episode 5, with Vicious holding his sword on Spike instead of a pistol, is just classic:

Vicious: You should see yourself. Do you realize what you look like right at this moment, Spike?
Spike (with an evil grin on his face :D): What?
Vicious: A ravenous beast. The same blood runs through both of us -- the blood of a beast that wanders, hunting for the blood of others.
Spike: I've bled all of that blood away.
Vicious: THEN WHY ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?!?!
