Level Up (A5E) About the strength ability

So, is the balance between strength and dexterity going to be addressed in this A5E?

I really don't like how 90% builds can just have 8 str without much direct consequence.

Good point to address. I house-ruled weapon/unarmed damage bonus is always from Str modifier and I also added Str requirement to use armor without being slow.
I would like to see something like that in LU.

Yeah, people keep pointing that you should just "request mores checks" to make STR useful.
But no one uses encumberance and 90% of the book is about fighting, it's where the core of the game is.
Just asking the players to solve it it's something 5e did i would really want the A5E not to do hahahaha

Strength checks are a thing. If you use all stats to overcome obstacles in your game, the players will stop all tanking the same stat like that.
You can ask for any checks. it doesn't solve anything.
Str and Int, are really useless as secondary abilities and it would be nice to rebalance it.
But mainly Str, cause mental abilities already have a lot of fluff to it (and Int at least get cool skills)

Athletics(strength) is one of the most used skills in the game.

I always enforce encumbrance rules. If you think strength should matter more, so should you.

As Maxperson noted, Athletics is probably one of the top three skills used in my games. I don't see a problem that needs fixing here.

Sure, you can do fine with an 8 for strength. But you can do fine with a 4 in any stat (except maybe CON) so not sure why that matters.

I don't know how any changes to STR in A5E can be implemented and still be 100% compatible to basic 5E.

Personally, I would delete CON and put it's mechanics into STR.

As mentioned, min STR for almost all armor and weapons would also be good choice.

then when you have min STR for all weapons, all melee weapons can use either STR or DEX for attack and damage.

I.E: you have 20 dex: +5 to attack and damage;
If you have 8 STR, you might only use dagger for 1d4 damage, but if you have 16 STR you could "finesse" ¸1d10 weapon.

same for bows/crossbows;
2d6 damage bow might requrire 20 STR, while 8 STR bow would deal 1d4 damage.

In my games, I let people start with bonus skills, proficiencies, and languages equal to half their Int bonus, rounded up.

What would you do to improve Strength?

I do the same hahahahahaha haha
But I let then have half prof if they got, like, a +1 in int.

For Str.
I made dex give damage only in 14 and 18 score (+1 and +2 respectively).
That way, str characters are the most damage dealings of the bunch.
But there are also some hp and mobilitie buffs for str too.
I guarantee, it's not unbalanced at all hahahahahaha
(except monks, they got really weak, but I buffed then too)
