[Adventure] A Call for Lovers (DM: jbear Judge:Lord Sessadore)

Looking at the image, Rain wondered if she should give in to smiling more often, though she tended to avoid grinning as her pointed teeth tended to unnerve people.

Rain decided to wait until Sabynha had finished with the brothers before smiling back at herself in case it opened the door (as she hoped it would) or set off a trap before the rest of the group were ready, but she explained her next idea to Zuri and Sir Flibbertigibbet.

"I don't seen anything at the bottom," says Sir Flibbertigibbet. He turns around to address the recovering warriors. "Good say to you, sirs! I am Sir Flibbertigibbet, knight in the service of the illustrious Lord Ragnar. I regret the rough treatment you have received at our hands, but had it been possible to dissuade you from your irrational hostility by more gentle means, we would have done so. It is a very odd place we find ourselves in, is it not?"

OOC: I'll be traveling for two weeks, starting on Saturday the 12th, returning Friday the 25th. I'll have some internet connectivity during that time but may not be able to post much, so please NPC Sir F as necessary.

The brothers gladly accept the water but claim they are not hungry, perhaps a side effect of the enchantment. The only comment they make about the rough treatment they have received at the groups hands is a bit of light chuckling and a brief "Think no more of it" from Hamish.

They introduce themselves formerly in response to Sir Flib's introduction however. "I am Argus. And that numbskull is my little brother Hamish. We are from Crystalbrook, sent by Lady Tamora to come and fetch her son. Aye, this is a right strange place all right. Curse the day Orlando ever followed that lass in here!"

Upon learning that the group was sent on the same mission and questioned as to how the brothers arrived this far he tells their story. "We found the cave no trouble. And making our way past the big ooze we found wasn't too hard. It was in the cave with the mud cave that ... that it all went wrong. Them mud men split the party. We were five when we went in. Only two of us left... And cut off from the exit we were, so there was no heading back. We came to the waterfall, all strange like as though frozen in time. And we pushed our way through. Outside ..." His story pauses here, his face reddening with impotent rage.

"Outside" continues Hamish "We found a fairy ring. And while we were taking a look is when the Devil found us. Kalbon, he called himself. Or so he told us after he surprised us, but us all by himself. Beat us bad. The fiend took us to his witch. And the witch used her magic to twist our minds from us. Since then, until now, it has been like living in a nightmare. Hard to think about ... like a blur. But the memory ... terrifying. And that was the last thing I can really remember, until I woke a moment ago, bruised, beaten but happy as I can remember. "

"Try to remember what you can. Did you ever go inside? Do you remember how you went in? There are more in trouble in there that we need to help. You can wait here if you like, you are in no condition to fight and we are in too much of a rush to see you back."

With a pained look Anrgus apologises. "I am sorry. I ... I can't remember. But I have a feeling ... a distant memory that we weren't allowed to enter the palace. We were like her dogs guarding the gate..."

Rain looks over sympathetically, "I'm sorry to say that the mud men probably claimed your companions as what would be their last victims; a warrior in scale, a woman who was a hunter and a finely dressed halfling? If it is any consolation, I laid out the bodies for proper burial should we go that way again and the halfling's magical gear has aided us and indeed helped cause havoc amongst the Witch's slaves since we came to this Island."

Sabynha idly traced the runes on her bracers as the men told their tale, she wondered if she should feel guilty, or if the men would want the trinkets of their companions... it was not the vistani way, however. Amongst her people, the belongings of the dead were frequently divided amongst friends and family; souvenirs or reminders of the times that were shared. Naturally, there were elaborate unspoken rules for whom could claim what and in what order. In fact, among her folk, using the belongings of the dead to right a wrong done to them was considered a fine way to honour their memory.

"We shall see that your companions did not fall in vain. What can you tell us about Kalbon? Anything at all might give us an edge." Sabynha sounded unusually grim.

The brothers confirm that the three described were their companions and reply that if their magical gear can assist in the success of the mission they lay no claim to it. "Consider it the only way we have to thank ye all right now." They then describe Kalbon the best they can. "He's a fierce devil ... Not unlike the lady here but ... much more. More devilish still. Orange skin... smells like the fires of hell. Arms like trees ... wings like a bat, and thorns all over his ugly hide. And with the blade he carries ... a whirlwind! As terrible as it was to be beaten by him single handedly, it was also truly awesome to behold. The more you hit him, the tougher he became. And the more he hit us and hurt us, well, the tougher he became. And then, when he got mad, he turned the air around him into pure fire. There was little we could do ... But you all beat the heck out of us too, so you may stand a better chance!"

"Thank you." Sabynha nodded, "we shall try to keep in that mind."

Looking to her companions, she inquired, "We can only hope to match his fighting skills with our own, but have we anything to protect ourselves from the fire of this devil?"

"Each other," replied Rain softly, "Flames won't bother me quite so much as you, but I'll be relying on you all to do what you do best whilst I try and hold his attention somewhat. It'll be helpful if Wat can keep any other foes away from me at the time, mind."

It was a plan, of sorts.

"So, he's not a Tiefling after all," concludes Rain, "Well, that helps me feel a little more freer to act accordingly."
