[Adventure] A Call for Lovers (DM: jbear Judge:Lord Sessadore)

Wat turns to the others.

"Quickly dig for the pod and rub the nectar on..." Wat realized the terrible choice that must be made.

"Of all, Gray seemed most at peace here. He never mentioned anything that tethered him back to the world on the other side of the falls. So I think we should leave him at peace. The rest of us were sent with a purpose that is yet to be fulfilled. One of your, rub the nectar on Rain."

Wat retrieved the other pod at set to work on Sabynha.

Zuri moved over to the dead tree while Wat brought blast after blast of lightning down on the other.

Using a dagger, she scraped carefully downwards into the broken and ruined trunk, probing now and again with her fingers to make sure she wasn't about to graze something not made of wood. Eventually, she found something that gave slightly when she touched it; as she worked around it to free it from the centre of the tree, more and more of it was revealed. It reminded her of a giant brown pea pod.

When enough of the pod was exposed around and underneath it, she used her knife to separate it from what was the heart of the tree and quickly upended it so that very little of the fluid inside would leak out of the severed stalk. Taking the pod over to Rain, Zuri set to work, smearing the nectar that she drew from inside the pod over Rain's immobile form.

Slowly, 'awareness' seeped back into Sabynha. She first became aware of the presence of things familiar; she could hear familiar voices - friends. At first, it was as though a dream can taken hold of her, but then other sensations began to creep in as well; the feel of hands on her form, the sensation of liquid, the breeze, and the sun. Ah, the sun; light! She could see once more, though only dark wispy shapes against the blazing brightness.

After what felt like an hour, finally, she became animate once again. Air blasted back into her lungs, and she dropped her sword, falling limp to the ground like a sack of grain. But she did not feel the impact, only hands holding her up now - Wat's. She reached out with shaky limbs to try and touch his face, and tried to speak her gratitude, but only managed a whisper of his name as the next thing washed over her - emotion. She cried tears of joy, knowing that she was not dead and that her friends had survived the ambush.

Again she tried to grasp him in an embrace, but her limbs would only respond weakly to her mind's orders.

As soon as the thick liquid inside the pods touches the bark engulfing Rain and Wat, it begins to reverse the lignification process immediately. Though time passes slowly for Sabynha, in truth, her companions are able to make short work of their would be wooden tomb. In twenty minutes they are free and breathing the air once more.

Zuri fills Sabynha and Rain in on the events that have occurred since they entered the glade as they recover from their ordeal. Zuri passes the blade over that was found near the northern Barkburr for Rain to examine, though Rain is initially somewhat pre-occupied with other matters as she tries to sort out events in her mind.

"I'm sorry for Gray. So much potential lost; if the opportunity arises, I'll return to try and set him free also. But we should go back and give thanks to this new hamadryad that you've all met; maybe the last remains of the barkburr pods can help cure whatever it is that ails her and perhaps she can help us find this would be assassin called Basal."

OOC: Hi jbear, Rain is a bit battered still, being on 20 hits from 37 as far as I can see. Is there a chance to short rest and maybe spend a surge or two? Also, if she get's the chance, she'll take a look at the sword from the glade. Thanks.

Wat was careful to support Sabynha as the lignification process reverses. He knew she would not have control of her limbs immediately and didn't want her to be injured as her skin softened.

When Sabynha struggled to move her limbs he let her try to find her own strength, but when the tears began to flow, Wat enclosed her in an embrace and didn't let go until she had composed herself.

Once the tears began to dry up, Wat stepped back and looked into her eyes.

"I wish I could offer you more rest, but our work isn't done and our time is short. Take a few minutes if you need but once you've regained your strength we need to move."

Wat reached in and embraced Sabynha once again holder her snugly in his arms. He then helped her walk away from the splinters of the trees that had entombed her in her own flesh and sat her down to rest.

"Thank you, Wat. I... I will try not to slow you down. We must stop the assassin..." It then occurred to her that much time may have passed, "...if it's not too late. How long was I... like that?"

"Ah, you acted swiftly." She smiled, a hint of her old effervescence returning along with her colour. "I owe you a great debt."

"I owe the rest of you my thanks as well. I am moved that you returned to free me, even with so much at stake. Alas, for poor Gray..." She lowered her head for a moment, praying that they would find a way to save him afterward.

"We shall not let this be for naught. We will restore peace to this place! I swear it." With that, she stood, feeling much stronger now, spurred on even by her own words, just as they bolstered the resolve of her companions.

OOC: Sabynha spends two healing surges to go back to full hit points (+5thp) and everyone else can gain +4 to any surges spent from Song of Rest (her encouraging words). She is now at 8 of 10 surges spent.
