(Adventure) A Tidy Profit... [Judge: Uriel]

Atella nods at the others. "I mean if they planned on killing us anyway, why bother knocking us out first? Why not kill us and then toss our bodies over the pier?"

Atella shrugs. "Maybe we'll never know." He searches the door for traps and tries opening it.

OOC: Just to clarify, Jo and Atella have subdual damage bringing them to 1 hp each?

OOC: Essentially, yes.

(OOC: What equipment do we have? I'm assuming most of what we were carrying is now at the bottom of the harbour.)

The thugs must have been in a hurry, for you still carry all your gear, though it is mostly soaked through.

The Goblin King said:
Zhang, looking like a drowned rat, rings out his hair. "Yes, lets have a look then at the boat. And Atella, I believe he WAS trying to kill you in a way that no one would find the body for a few days." He collects his weapons and backpack.

The way the ropes had been tied and tangled almost randomly about their bodies would have make it look like an unfortunate accident with a coil of rope and a slippery dock. And with no obvious wounds, no obvious connection to the assailants, and no direct motivation, few would suspect any foul play.

The locks of the two cabin doors are small, but are fairly expensive, complex well-kept locks. The lock keeping the two hatchways closed look like they were built much more simply, but are large, hefty padlocks are slightly rusted from years of exposure to sea spray.

Atella can't find any traps in or around any of the locks or doors.

OOC: Which door/hatch would you like to try opening?

Atella will start with one of the hatches.

The lock is stiff with age and rust, but with his toughest lockpicks and a thick file, Atella eventually manages pop the lock open. Unfortunately, the lock will probably never close again, and it is painfully obvious that the lock has been forced open.

D'Artagnon peers into the cabin.
"Zhang, Jo, keep an eye out." He gestures towards the cabin."Atella, after you.Let's find out what all of this fuss has been about."

Jack Haggerty said:
A narrow stair that is almost steep enough to be called a ladder leads below decks into the ship's hold. It's very dark down there.

Whispering over his shoulder, Atella says "D'Artagnan, hold a torch or lantern for me, will you? If we meet any opposition, I'm still weak from being knocked out, don't think it will take much to knock me out, so feel free to jump in and help." Atella smiles a wry grin and draws a sword and a dagger. In an open space like a hallway he'll have his dagger ready to throw. Otherwise he'll have his sword. He slips carefully and quietly down the stairs.

Jo, still somewhat tired but alert enough, waits at the top of the stairs, keeping an eye out for any unexpected visits.
