Still, I think kids would've loved a big, awesome dragon miniature.
And I don't know what the harm would be in trying to make a board game that could last for several sessions. HeroQuest was a "crappy board game" designed for kids, and easily much better than what we're getting here.
But a crappy product will always be a crappy product. And fans of board games, D&D, and people with kids should always demand more than "it's okay it's crappy - it's for kids."
They have those games already. There's like 4 of them. This is a new thing with a specific purpose at a specific price point.

The monster idea could work for 5e too. It wouldn’t be like a DMd game but could still work. Especially for solo games. Do the monsters shown so far look like they’d fit or scale with 5e characters?

I really wish they would go back to making interesting games that are skinned for their IP as opposed to variant 47 on "party of heroes fights monsters." Tryannts of the Underdark is an amazing game and Lord of Waterdeep is pretty good. But how many games have they put out that are just D&D lite. How about a strategy game in Eberron or a battle of mages in the Realms. Something! Anything!
