Devlin tethers his donkey to the closest tree and packs the basic supplies (torches, flint & steel, parchment, pen & ink) into his backpack, leaving the rest on the beast's back. He then shoulders his crossbow, checks his quiver and rapier to make sure they are secure, and begins his descent down the chain ladder (untrained Climb Check = 7).

Once inside the cavern, he takes a look around, thankful for Shariff's lantern. Noticing the floating light, Devlin turns to Silvercat, "Hey, what do you make of that?"

Then those of you with low-light vision can make out the appearance of a man being orbited by a perfect gray sphere, that glows with light out to 20 feet. You can also identify that the man appears to have become aware of you, and is slowly creeping towards a small metal case against the wall of the cavern.

Palming a throwing dagger <Sleight of hand if need be, in case he is watching me>, Silvercat whispers to Devlin 'I'm not sure...' Then, he calls out to the man 'You there, don't make any rash moves, we aren't enemies, good Sir.'
<Ready to throw it if the man makes any overt hostile gestures>

Seeing Silvercat and Shariff reacting this way to the humanoid figure by the light, Devlin quietly slips off to the side of the cavern and loads his crossbow.

The figure seems to stop itself short of the metal box, and begins to lurch forward slowly

, till the figure comes close enough to be easily observed. It's a middle aged man in a ragged explorers outfit, being orbitted by some kind of stone that glows with a magical light. He seems to be smiling a bit, under his grimy and hairy face. His graying beard forms a sort of white wreath around his head.

He seems a bit perplexed at your drawn sling, but doesn't take too much note about it before he starts to prattle, "Hey, who are you all? Mighty bad storm we were having, figured I'd hide out here instead of weathering it out."

Shariff and Silvercat:
The cavern has a lived in quality to it, it looks as if it has probably been occupied for quite a long time, not as the man put it, just the storms length.

Shariff lowers the sling. "Begging your pardon Sir. You can't be to careful out in the wilderness. We are seeking Sanctuary as well." Shariff walks up the the human. "I'm Shariff. My friend is Silvercat." He extends his hand in friendship.
