(Mithreander, the motives of the man are basically fear at why exactly a bunch of people dropped in on him in this cavern.)

Devlin quietly lowers his crossbow, but keeps it loaded. Still off to the side, he's content to merely watch the interplay between his companions and the stranger. When he notices Sullivan's glances at the box, Devlin begins to make his way toward it.

As you approach the box, the man get's even more disturbed. It becomes quite obvious that he's sweating furiously at the moment and is still unsure of your own intentions. He then glances farther back into the cavern, and then down on the ground towards what appears to be a pit full of ash and burned wood, quite possibly a fire pit.

As you approach the box, you can make out that it looks to be a tool-case of some kind, made of bronze. It has a small latch on the front that appears to be locked, but it would take no skill to unlock the device.

OOC: Good thing, since I'm playing a Rogue with no ranks of Open Lock or Disable Device

Devlin kneels down in front of the box and examines it. [Search check: 15(roll) + 5 (skill) = 20]

Devlin:
The box is bronze, with a singular latch and a number of small compartments under the latch. Each of them appear unsealed, and should slide out freely. There is a wooden handle on the back, possibly for carrying the case. There is a dent along the opposite side (the side your facing) that may have come from the case being dropped. The dirt around the case appears to have been the site of a great deal of activity, and their is an engraving on the top of the case that reads, "Property of the Allimon Exploration Company."

"It seems that this case makes you nervous, Sullivan. Would you mind telling us what it contains, or should I just find out for myself?"

Devlin pulls a set of tools out of his belt pouch as he awaits an answer.

Sullivan becomes more than nervous, his voice sounds terrified when he explains, "Don't you touch that! The mechanation inside is completely out of control! It's dangerous!"

Devlin is a bit taken aback by Sullivan's reaction and takes a step back from the box.

"Mechanation? Are you saying that one of the golems we've heard about is inside this?" Devlin asks as he repockets his tools.

Silvercat watches the exchange between Devlin and the old man with interest, awaiting some sign of either trouble or a new direction for the group.

Gregorian shrugs and moves towards the rear of the cavern, trying to get a better view of things behind the panicked man. "Tell me friend, have you been down there yet? Can you tell us what to expect when we head down?"

Gregorian cares little if the others take the man's things, opens the box, saves the box or what, as long as it does not leave before they can be completely sure that whatever they are looking for is not inside.
