OOC: @KarinsDad Is the half troll's grab broken when it is knocked prone (forced movement)?

Edit:
OOC: Read that wrong, if I knock it prone, is the grab broken?

OOC: No. Knocking someone prone is not forced movement. Knocking the grabber prone just means that both the PC and NPC are now prone. But, the PC is still grabbed.

OOC: You either have to inflict conditions that prevent the grabber from taking actions such as stunned or dominated. (Dazed used to be sufficient, but isn't any longer.) The other option is to force the grabber out of melee reach of the target. This can be done by moving either the grabber or its victim.

Even with the half troll's grasp, Jayce pushes off the ground. With a fluid movement to his belt, the longsword is sheathed and his whip is in his grasp.

The problem with using a whip is you need space to swing it. His first attack with the whip flashed out harmlessly away from the troll. With a sharp arm and wrist movement, the second attack lashes hard against the troll's throat. With the end of the whip still wrapped around the things throat, Jayce braces the whip against his other hand, able to yank and pull the troll's head back and forth.

Hilkalas now free from the Ogre's threat, weaves his sword in the air, and then sticks it in the earth between his feet. Beneath the hobgoblins a mass of black tentacles erupts, grabbing them. "Healer, you are surrounded by enemies, get away!" the marshal shouts, and Rava promptly obeys.

If one of those attacks fail, Hilkalas will draw power from his orb of deception, for another attack vs the Bugbear (in case this happens I'll roll the attack die: 20 if that hits, 15 dmg and slowed. Not sure if the area of effect also centres in the bugbear. [/sblock]

With nowhere left to charge, Sirrah stows his lance and draws his falchion. Unleashing his rage he slashes the Ogre.

Tana steps over the Ogre's corpse and into melee with the hobgoblins, attempting to catch them both in a blast of energy from her blade, though she's less than completely successful.

Rava summons up what little Strength she has left to maintain her spell before sending a wave of disruptive towards Jayce and the Bugbear

The Half Troll tries to bite Jayce for daring to attack it, but misses.

The Bugbear moves to a position to attack multiple members of the team and even one of the Hobgoblins. It swings wildly, but does manage to knock back the Sirrah's horse and to knock out Rava.

The Half Troll heals ups some more and tries to claw Jayce with its other claw, but Rava's magic protects Jayce.

The first Hobgoblin tries to fire a blast of force at Hilkalas, but misses.

The second Hobgoblin stabs Tana in the arm, but Rava's earlier magics deflect most of it and its a minor scratch.

[sblock=OOC]
Sirrah hits the Ogre for 27 and kills it.

Tana hits Hobgoblin 2 for 14 and marks Hobgoblin 1.

Rava hits the Bugbear and gives Jayce and Sirrah 5 temp hit points.

Jayce misses the Half Troll then hits the Half Troll and bloodies it.

The Half Troll tries to bite Jayce for daring to attack it but misses.

3+mods vs. Reflex misses

Hilkalas hits Hobgoblin 1 and misses Hobgoblin 2. He then hits the Bugbear and bloodies it. He tries to help Rava get away, but only manages to help her stand up.

Note: Rava was prone, so she uses the move action to stand. A prone creature cannot shift and crawling away would result in two OAs.

Note: Voda Vosa, please type in the power and the targets in Invisible Castle. Also, please indicate the squares you are targeting with area effects.

The same for every PC's charges, moves, actions, etc. I don't want to try to figure out where PCs are going or doing, I want people to write it down so that I know exactly what is happening. Thanks.

The Bugbear hits Rava and the Horse, but misses Jayce, Sirrah, and Hobgoblin 1. The Horse is knocked prone, therefore, Sirrah is knocked prone.

Vs Reflex, 5+mods misses Jayce, 14+mods hits Horse, 7+mods misses Sirrah, 6+2+mods hits Rava, 4+mods misses Hobgoblin 1, for 10 damage (12 for Rava)

The Half Troll regenerates 5 and is no longer bloodied. It misses Jayce.

6+mods misses

Note: Good thing Rava put that -2 on it.

Hobgoblin 1 has its Force attack readied.

3 does not recharge Lightning, 6 recharges Force, 2 does not recharge close blast

Hobgoblin 1 shifts out of the Grasping Shards, but misses Hilkalas with its force attack.

5+mods misses Hilkalas

Hobgoblin 2 does not recharge his deployment.

3 does not recharge

Hobgoblin 1 hits Tana for 8.

13+mods hits for 8 - 5 temp = 3

All in all, a pretty weak round for the monsters.

Note: I messed up Hilkalas' attack. But, it took me three hours to get this done and I'm not going to bother to retcon it now. I made two mistakes earlier in the encounter in the PC's favor that I didn't notice until later, so I'm calling it a wash. With as crappy of rolls as the monsters had, I don't think anyone wants me to change actions and re-roll attacks.

Note: Death saving throw for Rava at the beginning of the turn. The UENT Rava effects end for everyone except Tana (Tana effectively has them until the end of her turn since she acted before Rava and did not yet get to use those advantages).

45 Bugbear, bloodied, -2 to all defenses UENT Rava for Tana only, slowed
43 Half Troll, -2 to attacks vs. Jayce UENT Jayce.
15 Hobgoblin 1, marked by Tana, slowed UENT Hilkalas
26 Hobgoblin 2, affected by Tana's White Lotus
98 Ogre, dead

36/36 Hilkalas, 5 temp hit points
21/43 Jayce, bloodied, grabbed, 5 temp hit points
-5/37 Rava, bloodied, prone, unconscious, dying
28/49 Sirrah, 5 temp hit points, prone
52/55 Tana
Jasper/Pumpkin, Jasper (and Pumpkin) has 5 temp hit points
10 Horse, prone

Note: It's the PC's turns.

Terrain: The entire area is wet from the rain.

The road is difficult terrain due to mud. The rest of the area is wet, but it doesn't affect movement.

Cover: Trees provide one way cover if the target is in the adjacent square behind them compared to the attacker. Trees also provide normal two way cover for both attacker and defender if neither is in the adjacent square (i.e. PC away from tree, monster away from tree, but tree between the two of them).

Concealment. Bushes provide concealment, but only if the character is purposely crouched down behind them. The monsters were hiding behind the bushes, but now are not.

I will indicate if any of the monsters are trying to gain concealment.
