Adventure: Fire and Ice

-''I am with Skaliss. The only thing we know for sure is that they are coming for the diamond. No matter which direction the attacks come from, they will try to reach the diamond. I hope there is only one access to the diamond room? We'll guard it. Can the monks spend the night inside this room? I worry that someone as devious as Rigas could try taking hostage.'' Hadrak says.

"There is only one entrance master dwarf, you are very wise, as I've come to expect from your race. We can spend the night inside there. Come, I shall take you to the building." the elf says.

As you are walking through the central courtyard, you hear a cry of alarm from the front gate and see a circular object thrown over the walls. It rolls to a stop only a few feet from you, it is the head of The Captain. The monks call back "There's a gnoll out here, he's got some wolves with him".

"I WILL SPEAK WITH THOSE WHO SLEW KABUTO!" you hear in a coarse voice from the outside.

[sblock=OOC]It was Crag that killed Kabuto, right? Send Crag out there to talk with him! :p (or was it the sorceror?)

But seriously... how do we want to play this? I'm happy to fight them, but it seems kind of stupid to leave the monastery in order to do it, unless they are going to take down the walls or something.[/sblock]

''YOUR MESSAGE IS A LONG WINDED MONOLOGUE TELLING US THAT RIGAS IS POWERFUL AND CAN'T BE BEATEN. YOUR DEMAND IS THAT WE SURRENDER AND GIVE YOU THE DIAMOND IN EXCHANGE FO MERCY. OUR ANSWER IS NO!'' Hadrak replies.

-''COME IN AND HAVE A CUP OF TEA, THEN. JUST YOU. WE'LL HONOR A TRUCE.'' the dwarf's shout back.

What do I think of this emissary's sincerity?

Mind you, if he refuses to come in and want us to come out, I'll be convinced it's a trap either way.

[sblock=Judge here]
In any case, it seems our judge is absent, so it's up to the DM. What does the DM say - milestone or no? :lol:

I'm sort of informally judging this adventure, so I'll chime in.

The DMG also says that the DM is free to award a milestone after only one encounter if he feels that it was extra tough, or not count an encounter if he feels it was too easy. Basically the point is to compensate for resources that are used up (not just AP, but healing surges and daily powers - you don't get the same things back, but you do get more AP to spend instead).

So in general a skill challenge would count, since they usually use up healing surges, and for complex ones AP and daily powers would be at stake too. (For example, if a skill challenge had a time limit - must succeed within X rolls, or gets harder every round, or something - I'd certainly let a player spend an AP to get an extra roll without advancing the clock.)

But it's up to the DM whether an individual skill challenge is important enough to count. I won't interfere unless renau1g consistently shafts you on milestones.

He does appear to be telling the truth, despite all evidence to the contrary.

"I WON'T COME IN ALONE, WITH A GROUP OF KILLERS, I HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR MY OWN SAFETY IN THIS MATTER. EITHER YOU COME OUT HERE, ALL OF YOU IF YOU WISH, OR ALL OF US COME INSIDE" the voice replies.
