The child listens intently to Azryah's words and smiles up at her uncertainly. It appears that she doesn't understand everything that the deva is saying, but likes her tone.
She starts drifting away, but stops when Jynxx launches into his speech. His appearance and warm voice attract the attention of the crowd, and most of them stop their arguments to watch him. From their puzzled expressions, though, they find his oratory difficult to understand. For many if not most, it is completely incomprehensible. Still, his smiling presence does seem to calm things down.
[sblock=ooc]LadyLaw is correct, although Hulgrimi offered some cash as compensation, in the confusion no one actually got it and gave it to you. there's not really anything to return. Jynxx's idea to ask for him to protect the village instead is an interesting idea. However it's not clear if he would agree, and LadyLaw is also probably right that if he did, it would risk your chance to get his zocalti. However you could pursue it and still try to seek the zocalti through other means.
Regarding "one among you who knows the ways of tactics and combat", you've seen around twenty warriors around the village, and there are a handful of them watching this scene. They are hanging back and muttering to each other. They look tense but their concern seemed more about the crowd than you. They look relieved when the crowd calms down.[/sblock]
The little girl is entranced by the handsome kalashtar but draws back when he bows down to her. She still has the presence of mind to snatch the gold piece when offered. "Thank you mister very much!" she squeaks, then dashes off to hide behind the skirts of one of the women in the crowd.
The man who admitted to knowing about the attack sidles over. He avoids looking at Krassus. "I'm Rinnlo," he says softly. "I was foreman... before. I am very sorry about what happened. Um... sorry to say this, but Headman is... not well. You met him, yes? It is his job to control zocaltipapatlaca but no one think he will do it. He is not watching. So I wonder if he care enough to pay you to do."
Rinnlo answers again. "I don't know where they are now... Some people afraid they will come back and attack and kill here in the village. But I think probably not. Most are not really afraid of that. They are afraid they will take over. Force us back to the old ways. Threaten, scare people with gods talk. Get young people to listen to them. People who say no, maybe they disappear when out for a walk in the jungle, or die at night in bed. Not in one day, not in one month, but... They will fill in, um, empty place where headman not doing job. That make sense?
Um, most people here because they like it here, they like the new land and they looking for new things to do, yes? Happy to leave things like zocaltipapatlaca behind in the Valley. They will be happy if you get rid of zocaltipapatlaca. But there are maybe a few that might like zocaltipapatlaca... still think like they do..." He looks around. "Um... I don't see them around now..."
The woman who is apparently the mother of the little girl fires off a few sentences in Magari at Rinnlo. He grimaces, then turns back to the group. "She says zocaltipapatlaca told her and other parents to keep children home from school because the Daunton teacher gives the children zocalti. She thinks maybe they will try to kill the teacher." He asks her a question and waits for a response. "They told her this yesterday. Not her, but some other parents, tell them spread the word. And not zocaltipapatlaca, but one of the other villagers who maybe think like them. Um, one of the ones who is not here now..." He swallows.

Jynxx's words echo through the goliath's head a moment, which sparks a thought.
Jynxx, you want to help townspeople yes? And Headman supposed to protect town right? What if we make a deal with the Headman to remove the Zocalapapadingos in exchange for the beans we need?. Town saved, beans retrieved. Sounds good, no?
Chaku seems exceedingly pleased by his plan, after all; kill bad guys and get stuff, it's the barbarian way.

Kaeysari looks around at the townspeople. "Do you know where these bandits are?" she asks. "Are they likely to return soon?"
