Adventure: Food of the Gods (DM: ryryguy, Judge: renau1g)

The child listens intently to Azryah's words and smiles up at her uncertainly. It appears that she doesn't understand everything that the deva is saying, but likes her tone.

She starts drifting away, but stops when Jynxx launches into his speech. His appearance and warm voice attract the attention of the crowd, and most of them stop their arguments to watch him. From their puzzled expressions, though, they find his oratory difficult to understand. For many if not most, it is completely incomprehensible. Still, his smiling presence does seem to calm things down.

[sblock=ooc]LadyLaw is correct, although Hulgrimi offered some cash as compensation, in the confusion no one actually got it and gave it to you. there's not really anything to return. Jynxx's idea to ask for him to protect the village instead is an interesting idea. However it's not clear if he would agree, and LadyLaw is also probably right that if he did, it would risk your chance to get his zocalti. However you could pursue it and still try to seek the zocalti through other means.

Regarding "one among you who knows the ways of tactics and combat", you've seen around twenty warriors around the village, and there are a handful of them watching this scene. They are hanging back and muttering to each other. They look tense but their concern seemed more about the crowd than you. They look relieved when the crowd calms down.[/sblock]
The little girl is entranced by the handsome kalashtar but draws back when he bows down to her. She still has the presence of mind to snatch the gold piece when offered. "Thank you mister very much!" she squeaks, then dashes off to hide behind the skirts of one of the women in the crowd.

Jynxx's words echo through the goliath's head a moment, which sparks a thought.

Jynxx, you want to help townspeople yes? And Headman supposed to protect town right? What if we make a deal with the Headman to remove the Zocalapapadingos in exchange for the beans we need?. Town saved, beans retrieved. Sounds good, no?

Chaku seems exceedingly pleased by his plan, after all; kill bad guys and get stuff, it's the barbarian way.

The man who admitted to knowing about the attack sidles over. He avoids looking at Krassus. "I'm Rinnlo," he says softly. "I was foreman... before. I am very sorry about what happened. Um... sorry to say this, but Headman is... not well. You met him, yes? It is his job to control zocaltipapatlaca but no one think he will do it. He is not watching. So I wonder if he care enough to pay you to do."

Kaeysari looks around at the townspeople. "Do you know where these bandits are?" she asks. "Are they likely to return soon?"

Rinnlo answers again. "I don't know where they are now... Some people afraid they will come back and attack and kill here in the village. But I think probably not. Most are not really afraid of that. They are afraid they will take over. Force us back to the old ways. Threaten, scare people with gods talk. Get young people to listen to them. People who say no, maybe they disappear when out for a walk in the jungle, or die at night in bed. Not in one day, not in one month, but... They will fill in, um, empty place where headman not doing job. That make sense?

Um, most people here because they like it here, they like the new land and they looking for new things to do, yes? Happy to leave things like zocaltipapatlaca behind in the Valley. They will be happy if you get rid of zocaltipapatlaca. But there are maybe a few that might like zocaltipapatlaca... still think like they do..."
He looks around. "Um... I don't see them around now..."

The woman who is apparently the mother of the little girl fires off a few sentences in Magari at Rinnlo. He grimaces, then turns back to the group. "She says zocaltipapatlaca told her and other parents to keep children home from school because the Daunton teacher gives the children zocalti. She thinks maybe they will try to kill the teacher." He asks her a question and waits for a response. "They told her this yesterday. Not her, but some other parents, tell them spread the word. And not zocaltipapatlaca, but one of the other villagers who maybe think like them. Um, one of the ones who is not here now..." He swallows.

[sblock=ooc]I just thought of something Bwarli should have said before when Jynxx was talking to him. I added it in to the original post here.[/sblock]

Jynxx looks at the mother and smiles warmly, [sblock=telepathy] "Do not fear to send your child to school. Only with knowledge can one achieve power. I see much of both within her, and you should be proud to have such a daughter."[/sblock]

Jynxx turns to his companions, "We possess the right of redress from him. He will not give us the beans, at least it is my belief that he will not. I should dare say we should not divide our attention, but rather refocus it.

Our main goal is to gather the beans, is it not? I cannot in good faith leave these people full of fear and willing to allow a bully the power to stop them from learning. I have much faith in schooling, and I see much light within this child; and so I cannot let her Daunton teacher pass without a raised arm in defense.

What I propose is simple only in words. We need to send a messenger asking for the chef to come to us, as it is vital to the zocalti being brought back in time. I ask you all if we may use the right that was granted to us by local customs to bring the lich from his boredom for a moment. If he cannot control those within his realm... than we will be brought to a new front. I cannot imagine a man powerful enough to defeat death as too weak to combat some bandits."

Jynxx looks over at one of the many armed warriors, [sblock=telepathy]"Do not be afraid, we are not here for combat or to harm, only to help and pass by. Pray tell me, can you get the one that commands you and have him speak with me? I cannot speak your native language and must resort to my tricks of the mind. I apologize for startling you. It is something that must be done."[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Is that whole speech about redress addressed to the villagers or to the party? I'm sorry, but I'm really confused about who you were trying to talk to and what you were trying to say.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]

It's alot of words for not saying a whole lot... lol

Basically, Jynxx thinks we need to send a messenger asking the chef to come to us. The redress or whatever it's actually called (in Jynxx's opinion), should be used to try to calm the fears of the people in front of us. The bandits need to be stopped...

Jynxx proposes that we use the lich to control the bandits, or eliminate them ourselves.
Also... messenger to the chef. [/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Yeah I'm a bit confused by that speech too. :)

One thing I want to clarify, you still have plenty of time left before the deadline. If you were to acquire the zocalti here (by whatever means) in the Bonite village on the morning of the day after the next one, you would still have time to make it back to Fulcrum and the ship. So that means you have one entire day in which to work. Travel between the village and Fulcrum is only about an hour so you could easily make several trips back and forth if you wanted.

The main thing is you only have two opportunities for extended rests. But don't feel like the deadline should constrain your actions at this point. There is still plenty of time.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I'd rather go find Castofle in person, just so as to maximize the information that he gets before leaving Fulcrum and make sure that he gets here, even though it will take extra time. And I think that all the stuff we're saying would seem extremely weird coming from a messenger.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I see. I'll have to respond to that now that I understand what you were trying to say.[/sblock]

Azryah looks at Jynxx as if he has six heads.

"In no way do I think we should use the right of redress for anything but getting what we need. It's foolish to give up our only bargaining chip for the beans on a promise we can't be sure he'll keep. As for a messenger, probably better to go ourselves. The trip wasn't that long and it will ensure he gets here safely and quickly instead of taking his time. I wish we could leave him out of it, but I don't see how that's possible given our needs. Merkari will not be pleased if anything happens to him on this journey."

[sblock=OOC]At this point, I am as confused as my character (so I should have easy RP ;) ) Do we have 1 plan, 2, 8? The plans I can understand and like: I'm OK with having Castofle try and cook for the Lich, assuming he agree's, while we do something about the Zocaltipapatlaca. There are bound to be a villager or two who can put us on the trail of the theives.

So from my perspective, our plan should be this: All of us go fetch the chef, then once he's busy in the kitchen, we head out to save the day for the village. I say this assuming it'll take more than 20 minute for him to try his various cooking masterpieces. This way even if Castofle fails, we can try and use the fact we did the headmans job as another bargaining chip, or just see if the town themselves can donate to our cause.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Oh, good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's confused. I like this plan. Can we get back to Fulcrum by nightfall at this point?[/sblock]
