Adventure: Get Me to the Church on Time (DM: BenBrown, Judge: Renau1g)

There is a noise coming from up ahead. It's indistinct, but it sounds like someone coming down the trail that Mallaby's group is going up. There's time to get off the trail, but it will have to be done quickly and quietly.

The brown groups of rectangles are brush piles. They're difficult terrain to move through and standing behind them provides cover against ranged attacks.
The brown circles are, of course, trees, which can block line of sight.
The gold colored lines across the map are contour lines indicating a change in elevation. When moving uphill (towards the top of the map) they cost an extra square of movement to cross, except when on the trail (the swath down the middle of the map).[/sblock][sblock=pre-combat]Set up in the bottom part of the map (below the lower contour line).
If anyone moves off the trail, they will need to make a stealth check.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC:Strategy]
I have a -3 stealth, unless i roll something uber i dont think they will mistake an iron clad paladin for a twig.
What if everyone else hides on the sides except for me. When they come down i can either use my high diplomacy to make new friends or they will focus on me since you are all hiding, which is fine since my armor is so high.
What do you all think?

OOC: Zardi is not only really bad at stealth (-1), but by his nature, he would not hide from an unknown threat. He would stand beside the Paladin and assist him by looking threatening or just showing his support.

OOC: Eraden would welcome the company but would try to be civil before jumping into a fight. And I think a pair of travelers would seem less suspicious as well. Zardi you want to stand at my side or behind me?

[sblock=ooc]Goldenhorn's stealth is bad, and he is not sneaky by nature, but he will step behind a tree for cover (I'm thinking P13, unless someone else wants to be there). If some of us are standing behind trees close to the path it will at least give us some defensive bonuses without making us look like we're trying to ambush anybody.[/sblock]

OOC: I think all of these characters are bad at sneakiness. Graval will be standing on the path. There's no way the dwarf would let some crunching footsteps scare him into hiding.

[sblock=Away, sort of]I have some very serious health issues going on in my family. It was completely unexpected, and I'm not sure how long it will be until I can post normally again.

If I can post quickly I will, but feel free to RP my character. Sorry, and thanks. Remember, spider is best when charging! Actually, it's about all he is good at.

"Get Lor' Malabee ouffa da path. I an Grava gonna make some noise an dra' dem to 'ere. Da rest a ya hide ouffa da path as well, an iffna dey lookin fo troubba, den ya'all jump out from all sides, ya 'ear?"

Spider gave them a few seconds to set up before yelling, "Who issa dat be goin' dere!? Come out where I an I can see ya tru!"

1. Lord Adelin Mallaby recruits me and some other adventurers from the Tavern. He asked for protection, on a trip to Allaria. He is to be wed to Elena of Terconis, daughter of the Count of Terconis. According to tradition, the wedding must take place at the ancient chapel of the Terconis family, and the chapel in Count's Crovale lies in the high hills of old Allaria. The lady and the Count are already there.
2. The adventurers board Starlight's Veil, Mallaby's brig. The ship is built for speed, not cargo or battle.
3. Intended Path: Land at Ristaren (100 miles south of Fromish), and make our way up the old highway to here. A mile or two off the highway is the village of Achirem, which is still thriving in the midst of rough country, so they say. From there we cross Derianis ridge, and then down to Crovale. The last part through the hills may be dangerous.
4. We land at Ristaren, and it is a small, poor town.
5. We killed a bunch of spiders.
6. We arrived at Achirem, where Kelvan told us to watch out for:
a. Bramble scar: some kind of trap/pit thing we can't avoid.
b. Hzaka Raiders
c. Ismene: Local robin hood bandit type. Lady, with a band of rugged ladies.

As the footsteps approach, it becomes apparent that it's a fairly large party. Goldenhorn moves behind a tree, and Lord Mallaby heeds the advice to get off the trail and behind cover. As Spider shouts the footsteps stop for an instant, then there is a barked command in the Hzakan language, and they continue, synchronized in a marching pace. Soon, the other party comes into view. It consists of heavily armed and armored Hobgoblins, some bearing swords, others vicious scourges knotted with bits of wire. These are followed by a number of goblins armed with bows and a large bugbear with a huge spiked morningstar.

As they all come into view, the leader barks another order and the double column stops. He turns to the column, and says something in Hzakan, and they all laugh in a rather unpleasant fashion.[sblock=Hzakan/Goblin]"Looks like we won't have to go as far as we thought, lads. They look like they can sting, though, so be careful."[/sblock][sblock=map]
