(Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

[Back.]

As your bumpy, hot, and cramped quarters carry you to the distant fortress, there is a number of times when the caravan stops briefly. Each time there is a loud series of yells and knockings as the men working the caravan break for water. They all seem to be tired during the daylight, but after what passes for a half day the troops liven up as they near the outer regions of the fiery region.

As the caravan passes into the walled fortress, the noise grows quite a bit. The combination of hammering, grunts, yelling, and a steam whistling device all attribute. Worst of all, Kreepto has began to bugger out about the noise of the soldiers inspecting the contents of the caravan, but they stop well before reaching your cart.

Six painfully calm hours later, someone starts to pull the nails out from the board that holds the carts contents within. As the first half of the nails have been pulled, it seems like the group on the right could push the rest off with a little bit of teamwork, or everyone could wait for the crowbar to finish pulling out all of the nails.

Jagos motions for the others to remain silent and gets ready to take action as he can see the one who opens.

OOC: I didn't realise we were nailed in, does he break down a wall or is there a top on the wagon? How high are the walls? Oh, and welcome back :)

Grog readies the dagger he has been holding
since getting into the wagon.

"Just in case," he thinks to himself.

OOC: Welcome back Creamsteak! How did finals go?

(Finals weeks Suxxored :p. Some of those tests murdered by bwain pretty badly... and I'm still studying some of the material over the summer just so that I can handle the next couple classes in my progression.)

Jolmo: OOC: The wagon has full sides, is two feet deep, and a large board was loosely hammered in on top of the cart to prevent suspicious inspectors from uncovering the cargo without more work than their lazy dispositions would permit them to handle. Right now someone is slowly opening the cart by pulling nails out from above, and it is currently loos enough that a few people working together could easily push the rest of the loosened top off.

Jagos: You can't tell anything particular about the person opening the cart through the open crack, except that he appears to be using a crowbar like device, and is wearing chainmail. He hasn't spoke up or made any new noise besides that.

All: After another moment, the cart top is slid off and to the side, and the stone ceiling of the warehouse becomes visible. The man leans the top off to the side, but hasn't seen the cargo yet. He does not appear to be one of the men from the caravan guard, but rather, a guild warehouse guard who has been drafted to open some boxes.

Sorry Creamsteak! I'm suffering from finals too so I won't be posting for the next 9 days. Feel free to play Vanadan for awhile. BTW: Vanadan hasn't been approved yet.

(The following assumes that the guard seems to be alone at a first glance when standing up.)

Jagos stands up and points his rapier at the man. "No sudden moves and no sound except to answer questions, understood?" Jagos says slowly and silently.

If the guard makes no immediate resistance Jagos will ask some quick questions giving him hardly enough time to answer before continuing: "Who are you? Is there anyone else nearby? What were you supposed to do with these wagons?"

OOC: Can't think of any more questions right now. Intimidate: +6.

As Jagos interrogates the guard, Jaairik jumps out the opposite side of the wagon and readies his bow, looking about for any reaction to the wagons contents being men rather than goods.

He also takes in as much about his surroundings as he can, looking for escape routes, number of doors, and trying to judge from which direction trouble is likely to come.

ooc: welcome back, I can remember how frustrating finals could be. Boy am I glad that is over. ;)

Jagos stands up and points his rapier at the man. "No sudden moves and no sound except to answer questions, understood?" Jagos says slowly and silently.

The man quickly turns around upon hearing the voice. He is in his 50s, very old for a guard. He seems to be surprised first, then he looks very angrily at the cart (you are 10 ft. away right now, just to be clear).

"Who are you? Is there anyone else nearby? What were you supposed to do with these wagons?"

"I'm just the watchman. I should be the one asking questions here. You know you won't walk away from these mines with your lives! Intruders will be killed! There are dozens of other men right around here, and I'm sure they will be here any second after that noise!"

The room is 40 foot by 80 foot, a huge barracks turned into a storehouse, with four large 10 foot wide entrances and a number of stacked crates about. There are no signs of other individuals in the room. The entire caravan appears to be lined up inside this building. There is a second floor causeway which runs along the middle of the pointed roof building, and a number of large beams supporting the structure's roof.

Seeing as how the guard isn't easily impressed Jagos quickly changes tactic.

He lowers his weapon (but doesn't sheathe it) and jumps down from the wagon to the ground still 10" from the guard. "Sorry for that." Jagos says, not entirely untrue; especially since it didn't work. "We're actually here for your sake. We have heard about a fearsome demon trapped in this mountain; and about to be unleashed to take his vengeance if the mines are dug in the wrong direction. The guild officials wouldn't let us look into it but we couldn't just leave you all to your doom, could we? We just thought you'd be as stiffnecked about this as your boss. I hope that was wrong?"

While talking, Jagos sizes the guard up to try determining how difficult he would be in combat and how dedicated he is to his job.

OOC: Assuming demons are not unheard of in this world. If they are just children's tales change it for spirits or something else that is commonly known instead.
... after that noise!
What noice was that?

Skills: Bluff +6, Diplomacy +2, Perform (any) +2, Sense Motive +6

OOC: Oh, we're back :)

Nace slips out of the cart and adjusts his armor, then loosens his weapons in their scabbards, not drawing them yet as he sees Jagos talking to the guard. The youth folds his arms and leans against the wagon, trying to look non-threatening and certainly not about to threaten the guards life. He nods at what Jagos says, and glances up at the causeway, just making sure of his surroundings.
