(Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

Jagos (also?) looks around the room, investigating the baskets and the leather blobs.

OOC: Quirhid, I don't know if you mean that Vanadan followed Jagos, or if you've just misread. Please confirm whether he went up thoose stairs or not.

ooc: Correct, he went up. Also Vanadan's Search is +6! (+4 Int and +2 racial)

Vanadan looks what's in the baskets.

ooc: Search +4

Vanadan can quickly ascertain that the baskets appear to be full of a variety of contents, but at least the first few you open are full of different sorts of grain or oats. There are signs that some of the baskets are nearly empty, while most are completely full. One of the other baskets seems to contain a thick blackish soil that smells faintly of grease. Another is fill to the brim with a well refined salt.

Since no one had an answer to his query, Grog looks
around for the source of the "manure-stench".

The fades away after about a minute. It came from above, but has since disappeared (if smells could disappear instead of just going away ??).

Well, if they're that sense-deprived, Marl will sneak past them into the mine, staying close to the wall.

OOC - Marl is trying to move silently (+9) and hide in the shadows (+11)

As Marl starts to sneak past the first guard, he sees a sign that he may have been noticed as the guard grips his weapon (a halberd at hand) and twist his hands for a solid grip. There is a slight moaning noise followed by a cough from the other guard on the other end of the cavern.

Jagos (also?) looks around the room, investigating the baskets and the leather blobs.

Jagos finds the same sort of results as Vanadan. These all appear to be common supplies for an outpost.

Marl moves away from the wall, stepping into view in front of the nearby guard.

"Ah, Biaust, Arngrim, I see that you two aren't sleeping at your posts. Good. I just spoke with the foreman and he asked me to check your alertness. Now, would you please tell me the identity of the man in white that you just let into the mine?"

OOC: As Marl talks, he tries to assess the reaction of the guards. Are they under some magical influence? Are they actually still alive, or maybe undead? After doing so, he'll ready himself for being attacked, just in case. (Ready Total Defense) Hopefully they won't attack before he gets the chance to dodge... :)

Bluff +4, Sense Motive +5 (or Spot +4, if that's relevant instead)

Jagos, calm now after his earlier chock, says to Vanadan: "Seems there's not much to see here. We should get back to the others."

Following his own advice, Jagos goes back and tells the others: "I couldn't find any locked door but it seems two men just left through a door over there." He points toward the door and continues: "They might have seen us. We should move away from here in case they return more numerous. How about that tower? Anyone think of someplace better?"

Jagos motions towards Asen and adds, "You find any cause for that?"

The guard, Arngrim, who seems to have his grip tightly and firmly placed on the haft of his Halberd seems steps forward with his left leg. He is shaking, no -trembling, as he seems to both grimace painfully and at the same time to lift his weapon threateningly.

The other guard is not so shaken, he seems to go from his attention to a ready at arms position, looking at Marl from behind his stoic metal mask.

Arngrim, still trembling, speaks. Arngrims voice is raspy, dry, and scared. His deep inner voice comes out through even the dry parched unwilling throat that tries to suppress itself. Arngrim's simple words are, "Help me..." as his weapon spirals around his body and strikes the other guard in his right armpit with the blade of the weapon (26 to hit, 13 damage). The other guard doesn't even seem to flinch at the pain, but the blood streaks out of the armor even in its hardened dry state. The dark mottled fluid drips through the platemail and along the metal crack running along the breastplate where both halves are conjoined.

Arngrim's form seems out of control, swinging left and right, but stepping towards Marl none-the-less (5 foot movement). The other -wounded- man seems to stumble forwards now. He rushes forwards, albeit slowly, till he is standing adjacent to Marl with his weapon fully raised and ready (move action). He is far too slow to strike quickly, giving Marl an opportunity to act before the sentry does.

Grog & Vanadan: You hear the sound of a blade cutting through a metal plate and a flury of metal blades hitting upon rock walls outside. The others probably didn't hear the noise because it sounds to be a bit far away and there are the walls of the structure your in that are in the way. ==Results for a listen check DC was 18==

Vanadan nods to Jagos and follows him.

The elf stops to listen for a few seconds. Then he starts to move faster. "There's something happening outside," Vanadan says joining the others. He continues to the door and opens it slowly trying to see what's going on.

"Mongrel's Teeth!" Marl swears under his breath.

"I'll figure something out! Just quit swinging those halberds at me!"

With that he takes a couple of careful steps back from the guards, turns and makes for the warehouse as fast as he can, pulling out a couple of darts again as he runs.

OOC, taking a double move back towards the warehouse, drawing weapons in the second move - starting with a tumble backwards if he needs to in order to avoid their halberds at his back
