Adventure: Hey! That's Not Wayne's Basement! (DM: H.M.Gimlord, Judge: Ozymandias79)

[sblock=Tenchuu]
Two Star Wars related thoughts:
1. "It's a Trap!"
2. "Shut down all the trash compactors on the detention level!"
And here are mine.

  1. "I find your lack of faith disturbing."
  2. "What a wonderful smell you discovered."
  3. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious"
  4. "Put that thing away. You're going to get us all killed." (Riardon's sword)
  5. "If you're beginning to think coming here was a bad idea, I'm beginning to agree with you."
  6. "If there's a bright center of the universe, you're on the planet it's farthest from."

[sblock=P8] No problem. 12 it is![/sblock]

Rujah would cautiously begin to move forward, not speaking as he attempted to avoid being overtly noisy as he proceeded. After all, there was no reason to announce his presence to whatever may or may not be present... though... Rujah was not particularly trained in stealth.

Move towards the end of this small single-file passage, looking about for any threats before proceeding into the main room.

This sounds like the spot Jin moved to (K15). Go ahead and specify a coordinate location on the map just to be clear.

[/sblock]

[sblock=HM]
Jin's action stated if I did not move to K16 of farther, he would stay directly behind me. But, move me to K16 (K15 was where I was originally thinking, so Rujah wouldn't just waltz into the room in case something wanted a Dragonborn sandwich.) ;)[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC] I guess the plan was for Rujah to get to K15 and look around the corner, so here goes (Rujah is at K15 and the order hasn't changed except to say that you're all marching in a line)...[/sblock]

[sblock=Ruah]Around the corner, the light from Riardon's sword is dimmer. The rubble continues into a medium-sized antechamber. To the northeast the rubble ends at a staircase landing that descends into a hole in the bedrock floor. There's no one in the room that you can see, but there seems to be a flickering light coming from the bottom of the staircase (the map hasn't changed yet).[/sblock]

Rujah sees nothing immediately that he would consider a threat, so he steps into the room, looking about a bit, still attempting to be somewhat quiet as he steps cautiously, giving the others plenty of time to follow and observe the surroundings as well.

Did you want another stealth check?[/sblock]

[sblock=Theroc]I've already taken into account your stealth check, but it's kind of pointless for what ever is in the room for two reasons:

  1. Riardon's sword is pretty much sending the equivalent of 100,000,000cd into the antechamber :erm:.
  2. What happens next...[/sblock]
Rujah makes his way through the garbage and quickly realizes that the mess is not just the mindless result of carelessness. With a deafening crash, the floor gives way, garbage, Rujah and all, splashing into a sewer line that runs beneath the floor. Fortunately for Rujah, the bottom leaves his head and shoulders above floor level. Looks like no harm done, until he notices the rats crawling all over him. At this point, they’re just gnawing on his armor, but Rujah realizes that if he doesn’t do something quickly those teeth will be chewing on his scales next.
[sblock=Talon, Jin, Riardon]Passive Perception DC 15: While Rujah is thrashing about and trying to get out of a hole in the floor, you hear the scuffing of chairs against stone, and frantic orders being barked. Somebody’s coming.[sblock=Riardon]I'm rolling initiative for you. I don't have a number from you yet. If I missed it somewhere, please post a link to the roll. If you haven't rolled yet, you'll get this number. For your sake, I hope it's good :devil:. Here goes...

1d20+3 = 3 Honest. It's a real roll. I sure hope I missed your post :eek:.[/sblock]
[sblock=OOC]The bad guys have initiative on all of you. The max initiative I have posted is from Talon (13). The rats rolled a 15 (see Mechanics below). You may, however use what time you have left to move to the front and ready actions.[/sblock][/sblock]
[sblock=Mechanics]
Let the fun begin! :devil:

[sblock=Trap Statblock]Water-Filled Pit
Perception DC 23: Sorry guys. You didn't stand a chance. Don't blame me. Blame FR1 Scepter Tower of Spellgard.
Attack: 1d20+4 vs. Reflex = 21 Rujah falls in the pit trap
Hit: The target falls into a water-filled canal 5 feet deep and is attacked by a rat swarm.
Miss: The target returns to the last square it occupied, and its move action ends immediately.
Effect: The false floor opens, and the pit is no longer hidden.

Countermeasures:

  • An adjacent character can trigger the trap with a DC 5 Thievery check. The false floor opens harmlessly, but two rat swarms come up out of the pit to attack.
  • An adjacent character can delay the trap for 1 round with a DC 20 Thievery check. The floor becomes safe to cross while the trap remains delayed
  • An adjacent character can disable the trap with a DC 20 Thievery check. The floor becomes safe.
  • A character who makes a successful Athletics check (DC 10, or DC 20 without a running start) can jump over the pit.
  • A character can climb out of the pit with a DC 12 Athletics check.[/sblock]
I figure that you're going to look in your books, mods, DDI, etc.. for this info anyway, so I don't mind you having it. Plus I'd be a hypocrite if I said it was cheating. Just remember: Your characters, not you, are trying to come up with the solution.

Fenwick swiftly rushes past his allies, and as he reaches the edge of the pit, takes a flying leap over the pit, rats clinging to his toes, landing on the other side, then turns around and yells to Rujah "Over here. Fenwick help you ascend out of perilous water hazard!"

"Be careful. This may not be the only trap."

[sblock=HM]Can I make an attack on the swarm? I assume it is in J16. [/sblock]

[sblock=Jin and everyone else]Dang! Yes. I screwed up on the size of the swarm. (I thought it was tiny. It's actully medium. Yes the swarm is in J16 and yes you can make an attack on it, even though it's 5' down. Spacing works the same in 3D as it does in 2D. Diagonal squares are adjacent. Thus you are in it's aura and you may Attack it. I'll update the map when I'm not on my iPhone[/sblock]
