OOC: loading up on rations and feed for a mount, I'm looking at a donkey, it can carry 18 days worth of rations for me and feed for itself, which puts it at a light load, if it goes to a medium load it would restrict movement to 20' at whch point you might as well go to heavy load which I estimate would allow it to carry two months of food for itself and someone else, but that doesn't count water. The good news is that the vast majority of that is the donkey's food, so it could probably carry food for several people in addition to it's own load. In short, we will probably be restricted to a 20' movement due to the pack animals and will likely need to purchase several for the group. My apologies if you don't like all of this OOC exposition, but 1. it's not that important to me to roleplay purchasing supplies and 2. I really don't want to waste time going back and forth about this kind of thing IC, it could waste upwards of a week of posting. I'll either edit or post again with a suggestion after I get some numbers together.

Ok, if we all chip in for a cart and a mule, then it could carry enough food for itself and the entire party for about 6 months. That isn't taking water into account, but we're still in pretty good shape. mule is 8gp and a cart is 15 gp, so about 2gp each for that, but the food gets kind of pricey, about 90gp each for the full 6 months of rations, which I certainly don't have. However at two months it looks a bit more resonable for 30gp each, and we just have to turn around if we get a month away from civilisation. No idea what barrels of water would cost or how long they would support us in the desert, have to rely on Rystil for that info.

On that vein, could we get the info as an int or knowledge(nature) check? If not A'jardin will want to hunt down a sage in town to ask about it before we leave.

If we assume the water is pretty cheap and weighs about as much as the food for a day's worth of travel, a mule and cart could carry enough food and water for the entire party for about 3 months of travel (I know it might not be, just trying to make an estimate), which would put us in pretty decent shape. If it is much heavier, we could get two mules and a wagon, which actually doesn't increase the costs involved that much.

Another option is getting a horse (or horses) instead of a mule (or mules), which wouldn't be able to carry quite as much with the cart (or wagon) but would let us travel at 30'/round instead of 20'/round. A heavy horse and a cart would cost 27gp for each of us and carry 2 1/2 months worth of food and water (with the assumption that it weighs the same per day as the food), 2 heavy horses and a wagon would cost 55 gp each and be able to carry 3 1/3 months of food and water (with the same asumption).

(I'll be the judge, if no one minds. As for buying things, it isn't hard to find shops or markets in Orussus, and the gp limit is 20,000 gp.)

(OOC: Welcome aboard! Its great to have someone who knows about Orussus here to help me because while I'm in such a fleshed-out city, I feel like one of those at-a-loss GMs who refuses to play the Forgotten Realms because their players know too much more about them :))

"Oh Somac, what kind of weapon do you need? I have a spare short sword, if that would help?"

"Thank you so much, Rillian. However, I'm looking for something with a bit more heft. I have recently been using a greatsword, but I lost it in a great battle on the beach. In my youth, I used my grandfather's old greataxe...maybe I'll see if I can find its like in a local shop."

"I am not the wisest or most intelligent among us, by no means. However, if we are to travel far out from any source of food or water, I think that the faster we can travel, and the more we can take with us the better. I put my stock in with the idea of two heavy horses and as much food and water as we can procure. I am willing to put in more than my share, if some others can't afford it. After all, what good is gold in the desert?"

OOC: If it's not too much trouble, could the DM please post here an official list of the characters in the adventure (along with their levels and classes)? Thanks!

(OOC: An official list? Sure! If we take away Rinaldo (Sorry Velmont, but he's a bit too high compared to the little level 1s), that leaves:

Cade Level 1 Fighter
Anton Level 1 Ranger
Somac Level 3 Barbarian
Tandi Level 1 Monk
Rillian Level 2 Rogue/Fighter
Scun Level 2 Barbarian/Cleric
Dagummit Level 1 Fighter
Ajardin Level 1 Wizard

Did I get those right? (Classes may be wrong))

OOC: No prob... I'll go back to the RDI.

"Nine person. I think I will return to the Inn. You're enough for it, and I am sure you'll be able to reach your goal. Somac, take care, I want to hear you about that. I'll even pay you the dwarf spirit while you count me that.

Anyway, not enough profit for me, I'll look for something with more money at the end. Not your offer is not good, sir, but the number of people who has answerd the call is too high for my pocket. I wish you all luck."

Rinaldo takes his hat and leaves the room.

Somac: Male Human Bbn 3

Somac feels a pang of loneliness as his comrade from the goblin raids bows out. "Fare well, my friend," he says to Rinaldo as the merchant leaves. "Perhaps by the time I return from the desert you will have that magic shop you have dreamed about. And maybe I will return with enough treasure from the desert to help you stock it!"

He then looks about at the crowd around him. 'Perhaps I will find friends here that will become as dear to me in time,' he thinks.

OOC: I'm now officially 3rd level! :D
I went ahead and purchased a greataxe, but not a warhorse, figuring that a personal animal might be more of a liability than a help in the harsh environment we're headed into.

Cade looks at Anton "Perhaps it's best if ye hold on ta the ring. I'm sure ya kin navigate the land better 'n most of us."
"You mean I can go in the direction it points?" Anton smiles and winks. "Yes, okay. I am indeed familiar with some lands, but we will see how I will fare in the deserts."

I assume Knowledge (Nature) to get an idea of supplies for travelling in a desert? +6. Survival is +5. I'll probably end up buying more rations and feed so I can bring my mule along, unless I think that's probably a bad idea. ... Actually, it probably is. I guess poor Fyodor stays home again.
