The Horned beast charges the new arrivals but is deftly countered by Max.
The shard monstrosity uses its psionic power to sap the will of Nementah and her allies who had conveniently gathered in a tight group. They feel sleepy... so very sleepy. They feel slow, sluggish are all on the verge of collapse! It then turns it attention of the magicians coming from the west and hit them with psychic energy. Haruka takes the worst of it and finds herself almost blinded while Ashir shakes the effect.
That's when the horde of goonish hunters charge into the fray... with great ineptitude. Only the Warlock Haruka is mildly challenged.
The archers are more dangerous, they move toward the edhe of the wood to get better cover and open fire on the gathered adventurers. One neatly place an arrow through Primera's metaphorical head and disrupts her, causing through backlash serious harm on Nementah.
Then the Goliaths crash through the melees. Max and Renquist feel painfully the power of the blows and are severely battered.
Meanwhile the swordmen circle their prey. The swordmage is more direct and display dangerous prowess, creating bursts of energies that harm Virgil and through his mysterious powers and cast a web of arcane magic that single out and call to Rocco, even though he is in an akward position to answer the challenge.

Does anyone have 3 Healing surge or less? I didn't bother carrying that info over because out of the top of my head, no one is in danger or running out, correct?
Protective Roots: I think Nementah has to be in the burst. The Power says 'Close Burst Spirit 1'. That's the area of effect. You have to be in it otherwise you can't be affected.
Your confusion comes from the wording: 'You and each ally in the burst'. But it's the same wording as for Bless and other similar powers. They only specify that 'you' is a valid target because otherwise it would only affect allies. I do not read this as a dispensation from being inside the area of effect.
