[Adventure] Kingmaker (DM:renau1g; judge: garyh)

"I'm with him," Ez says, nodding at Scorpius. "We're making this WAY too complicated. You guys forget that the more complicated the plan, the more likely it is to fail."

"We should just wait inside. One of us can slam the gate shut behind the ones who come in, so they can't reinforce too easily. Then we pounce. When they're done, we handle the ones left outside."

She dusts off her hands.

"And what if the bandits aren't the first to come knocking? We don't know their looks . . . if we attack the first folk through the door without waiting to see if they really are bandits we could easily find ourselves standing over some innocent bodies."

"I didn't say we'd attack on sight," Ezmerelda points out. "We can wait in the house. If they're customers, we'll sit tight. If they bandit, we attack. Shouldn't be too hard to tell them apart."

The group is in place, Mari & Elurin take to the trees and watch as a quartet of humans walking, no...strutting up the road. It is plain they are not soldiers from their haphazard way of walking. They do not seem to be joking loudly or singing as they advance.

They are so engrossed in their movements that they fail to notice the large koala and Mari hiding in the tree to their right. They saunter to the fort and are aghast to find the door shut. They stop, and the front three look behind to a cloaked man with a bow strung across his back. They carry daggers and a spear. He looks at the door and a wicked grin spreads across his face.

"Hey Oleg! You got about five seconds to open this door or we'll start tossing in some fire to speed your asses up!" he shouts, pulling out a vial and chuckling as his associates do the same.

[sblock=Arcana DC 15]
The vials are alchemist's fire, a dangerous, sticky, adhesive substance that ignites when exposed to air. [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]
Ok, so you have the element of surprise, despite the poor stealth rolls. Bonus points for anyone who spots the Easter Egg in the above post :)

Surprise Round:
Limited Action: If you get to act in the surprise round, you can take a standard action, a move action, or a minor action. You can also take free actions, but you can’t spend action points. After every nonsurprised combatant has acted, the surprise round ends, and you can act normally in subsequent rounds.

I'd say that confirms these are the one's we're expecting . . .

Ruarc takes a few quick steps to get up to speed and makes a prodigious leap to the top of the wall just beside the gate. He quickly takes stock of the situation and prepares to enter melee.

[sblock=Actions]Move: Take a loop in order to get a running start and jump to the top of the wall.

Athletics (Jump) (1d20+10=28, 1d20+10=22) - Taking the better of the two, that gives him 5.6 squares (28 feet) horizontal and 7 feet vertical.

Crouch atop the wall beside the gate (V19) with Battle Axe and Hand Axe drawn.

Initiative (1d20+5=24)[/sblock]

Mari

Seeing the men approach, Mari remains still until they pass and then slips a hand to her pouch. She takes a sip of rum and spills a little for her spirit companion and extends her will to call him. "Come have a little taste of rum and join me for some fun," she says too softly for any but Elurin to hear. The leaves rustle and a breeze begins to build just behind the men at the gate as the Spirit takes shape.

Faustus, Tiefling Avenger

Faustus moves to V15 and readies his big, nasty weapon. "Vengeance is fixin' to be mine, saith the Tiefling!"

The druid ignores the bird that he had enthralled and moves closer as he regains his humanoid form while the bandits are talking. After the bandits show their aggressiveness, he gestures with his staff, carefully drawing the shape of a wing in the air with the point; as his drawing connects to itself a flaming feathery form shoots from the staff striking at the archer. If the attack hits, the half-elf calls out "Toss that and my pet bites!" [sblock=standard action]Revert from beastform to half-elf and shift one square to the left while talking. I am hoping that Mari and I can swap starting places or I can start one square to the left (like MAri did) because it positions me 10 squares from the middle of the road which; I think it reasonable that Elurin always tries to be within 10 squares of the action. Invoke a Fire Hawk on the archer Firehawk attack (1d20+4=22, 1d8+4=5). This gives the Fire Hawk Attack as an opportunity attack (Trigger: The target takes any action that can provoke opportunity attacks.Attack: +4 vs. Reflex Hit: 1d8+4 fire damage until start of my next turn)[/sblock]
