I already applied the penalty to one roll. The question is if task roll (history) is penalized or the one against the hard DC 17. I wanted to apply it to the one that simply required the a 17 to succeed (the easier roll), but was not sure how to make this clear.
Either way, Tenchu may re-roll his skill check (I hit an 18 even on the penalized roll).
Sheng manages to mend the glass per its original forging. Now what remains is to assemble the beacon mechanism from its disparate panes.[sblock=Sheng's Progress]
[/sblock]Fenwick, having assembled the mechanism is sure that he can figure out a way to pursuade a corroded shaft to cooperate.[sblock=Fenwick's Progress]
[/sblock]Gensai loses his footing on the stairs, nearly allowing the barrel to shatter on the floor below, but Riardon is there behind him and steadies the barrel.[sblock=Gensai & Riardon on Stairs]
[/sblock]As the Eladrin reaches out his hand, something white falls out of his tunic pocket. It appears to be a scrap of parchment from Shear's library. Evidently he had placed it there subconsciously.
Examining the parchment carefully, he realizes that it could be of help in their current task[sblock=The Parchment]

[/sblock][sblock=Rules and Such]Repeating Skills Repeating a skill two or more rounds in a row results in a cumulative -2 penalty to the skill roll.
Action Points Action Points may be spent to roll an additional skill roll for the round. It must be different from the skill already used.
Aid Another PCs may take -3 on a roll to gran an ally a reroll this round.
Heroic Effort
A PC may decide to expend a healing surge to gain +3 to a check before it is rolled or to apply +1 to a check after it is rolled or both for two surges.[/sblock][sblock=Modifications]The four of you have four individual roles:
Find Lens Parts and Repair the Lens (Arcana)
Find and light the oil (Arcana)
Find and fix the rotation mechanism (Endurance)
Search for artifacts or clues as to the history and purpose of the lighthouse (History)
Each PC must make an additional check DC 17 in each role. Failure results in a -1 to the skill check you are using in the current round. I will also use the result of this roll to flavor the fluff used to describe sucess or failure of the current skill check .[/sblock][sblock=Hankel]Hankel, as he is suffering from several broken bones, is still recovering from his wounds, and cannot participate in the skill challenge.[/sblock]
Sheng now staring down at the lenses, grabs his pointy beard as he thinks what to do next. His mind traces off at his studies in the art of science at his clan's stronghold. His master, an old but wise alchemist was instructing the young Sheng about optics. There were a miriad of optic devices used by Jadites, and you were supposed to know them all. Fortunately, Sheng knew his duty, and also he knew how to assemble the parts.
Fenwick heaves at the tightly stuck mechanism and the rust slowly starts to give way, but not nearly fast enough.
Fenwick stops, and glares at the device. Banging on it with the butt of his hand axe, he exudes what sounds like a long string of curses in his native tongue, apparently trying to cow the machine into submission.
[sblock=rolls]Athletics on Mechanism: 8(1d20) +13 +1 -2 = 20 Intimidate mechanism: 10(1d20) +13 +1 = 24
If you can't accept that, I guess I can make an endurance roll instead. [/sblock]
I feel a bit lost with the parchment. What kind of skill could Riardon use to understand it? Or is everything clear and he should make a Diplomacy check to instruct the others?
