OOC: If heal 18 wasn't sufficient, Riardon will take 10 for a 25. If this is still not enough, he will try to administer a healing potion to the dwarf.

Riardon looks over TikChik who has suffered a great deal of blood loss. Riardon manages to staunch the thri-kreen's bleeding, but TikChik remains in a deep coma. Riardon props him up agains the outer wall of the lighthouse and prays that the ranger will regain consciousness soon.

Upon reaching Hankel, Riardon discovers that the dwarf suffers from several broken ribs and a shattered left leg. Reviving him takes no more than Riardon's careful healing skill, but it will take time for him to heal completely.

Riardon binds the Hankel's wounds and brings him gently inside the lighthouse.

As he is being set down, Hankel's eyes slowly open, and the dwarf attempts to rise, "Aahhhh!"

Excruciating pain surges through his body, but he manages to raise himself into a sitting position, "What...happened?" He shakes his head and rubs his temples as if from a bad head, "Aaaah!" His face blanches as again, more pain washes over him, "Where am..." The dwarf's eyes go wide as he sees Fenwick approaching with the dwarven axe, "What is th...? Is that...? STANG!"

Hankel reaches to accept the axe, but the weight of it buckles the dwarf's shoulder. His arm falls, limply guiding the Stang into his lap, where he stares at it in wonder. Though he is bloody and beaten, Hankel's face looks as though a heavy load has been lifted from his shoulders. His eyes sparkle as he strokes the historic blade.

"You are a legend come alive!" he speaks to the axe as if it could hear.

The skeletons gather around Hankel and kneel, "Hail sun of Arkus Gimlord, Lord of Rioc Parvel. Now, at last, your servants can depart." One by one the skeletons crumble into dust that disperses in the sea breezes that buffet the tiny lighthouse island.

The leader skeleton is the last to depart, but before his bones disintegrate, he utters one final message, "Repair the beacon!"

GM: Skill Challenge: Repair the Lighthouse Beacon to Summon the Remnant of Rioc Parvel

Round 1 Objective: Divide the work into four tasks (See Modifications below), and find the components necessary to complete each of the tasks.

Heroic Effort

A PC may decide to expend a healing surge to gain +3 to a check before it is rolled or to apply +1 to a check after it is rolled or both for two surges.[/sblock][sblock=Modifications]The four of you will need to delegate to each one, one of four roles:
  • Find Lens Parts and Repair the Lens (Arcana)
  • Find and light the oil (Arcana)
  • Find and fix the rotation mechanism (Endurance)
  • Search for artifacts or clues as to the history and purpose of the lighthouse (History)
Each PC must make an additional check DC 17 in each role. Failure results in a -1 to the skill check you are using in the current round. I will also use the result of this roll to flavor the fluff used to describe sucess or failure of the current skill check ;).[/sblock][sblock=Hankel]Hankel, as he is suffering from several broken bones, is still recovering from his wounds, and cannot participate in the skill challenge.[/sblock]

"I know where to find the Oil," Gensai said. "If anyone wants to follow me, the room it is in also has some deceased dwarves, including the one who was holding stang, so there might be some clues there."

Gensai finds the barrel and starts pushing it up the steps, but about halfway up, he loses his footing, and both he and the barrel go stumbling back down to the bottom.

OOC: Nat 1 on the skill check. Well done me.

[sblock=Rolls]
Moving to second floor to get my barrel I started moving during combat rounds.

Overall task Arcana roll: 1d20+15 = 18

Endurance check to push the barrel up the stairs: 1d20+15=16

Sheng searches for the lenses in the fifth floor and tries to assemble them together, using a basic mending spell he learned from the master Artisan of his clan's.

OOC: I'm really confused here about what we're supposed to do in the first round. Is each of us supposed to take one of the four roles?

GM: [MENTION=1642]BenBrown[/MENTION]. Yes. It seems that Tenchuu has decided on getting the oil, Voda Vosa has decided on repairing the lens. I imagine that you will be attempting to force the rotation machinery into operation while Walking Dad attempts to understand the history of the lighthouse.

Sorry for the confusion. Feel free to roll any appropriate skill that spawns from a creative effort to RP Fenwick's attempt at his task.

OOC: Sorry for being so dense.

Fenwick climbs gingerly up to the top of the tower where the smashed beacon sits, and considers the mechanism. Noting that it's gone askew from its mounting, he reaches down, takes a firm grasp, and adjusting his weight, he lifts. As it falls into its housing, Fenwick gently begins turning it, trying to loosen the stuck gears without breaking anything, but the corroded shaft refuses to budge.

[sblock=rolls]Athletics on mechanism: 12(1d20) +13 = 25
Endurance on mechanism: 4(1d20) +11 = 15[/sblock]

GM: Technically you can apply the penalty to either one, but you must specify that you are applying the penalty before the roll (i.e.: in the roll comments). That being said, you can flip a coin and apply the penalty to the resulting roll, or you can opt not to take the penalty.

(I made a coin flip myself in IC, but then I realized that this would be presumptuous of me since I am not sure that you actually wanted to apply the penalty under these conditions)
