[Adventure] Lost Love (DM: Velmont - Judge: Renau1g)

Pis looks irritable as he continues working on the puzzle. At times it's obviously affecting his performance. After a failed attempt, he pauses to recenter himself and successfully removes another link. After that he stabs himself on the puzzle and curses a bit.

Frustrated: 17
Removing a link: 24
Stabbing self: 15

The 15 and the 17 might be successes, but I expect not. I'll keep rolling if necessary once I know.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK]Another link removed. I'll assume you'll continue like that:Thievery check (1d20+11=26, 1d20+11=30)[/SBLOCK]

Pis looks irritable as he continues working on the puzzle. At times it's obviously affecting his performance. After a failed attempt, he pauses to recenter himself and successfully removes another link. After that he stabs himself on the puzzle and curses a bit. He then looks at the puzzle and after his few attempt, seems to figure the puzzle and successfully remove the key after a few more moments.

Pis take a moment to look at the key. It seems to be made of platinum.

"Nicely done I must confess. You are not only brute who can handle yourself in combat, you have many skills and some brain. Let's open that door now." tells the gnome who have been looking at your efforts.

Talkrai, seeing that her friends seem to have the issue well in hand for the moment, keeps her eyes on their attackers, lest they decide to come and stab her or her friends in the back.

[sblock=edit]And I posted at the same time as Vel. Lose. Ah, well. She'll be watching them like a hawk anyway.[/sblock]

Pis steps to the side of the River, key firmly in hand. "No. We are battered and bruised. We need to recover before we go farther. You are going to let us do that, or you're losing the key forever. Come no closer." Pis stands poised to jump into the river.

[sblock=actions]Move: to a square far from the pair, adjacent to the river.
Standard: Ready an action: Jump into river. Trigger: Either NPC steps further into the room.[/sblock]

A loud sigh emanates from the half orc when Pis resumes the debate with the Gnome. Unshouldering her bow again, she walks back to her previous corner while adding, And so it begins again, He threatens Jasper, even though he knows killing him will only seal his own fate, we insist the hostages be released before we cooperate, and now that we have the key, there is a bit of leverage there. She then shrugs her shoulders and looks to her companions for some sort of guidance, her gaze always flickering back to the Gnome and his prisoner.

[sblock=OOC]I really don’t like going into a new room with them at our backs, and I can pretty much guarantee they won’t take point. I also don’t much like Pis using himself as an anchor. As much as she’s talking peace and logic, she’s ready to snipe the gnome if you guys think you can save the boss… Velmont, Readied action to Evasive Strike the Gnome if anyone does something serious to Jasper, either good or bad. Movement part of the attack to shift back across the bridge.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I agree. Not about to go on with them at our backs. I'm ready to dimension swap Tal and Jasper any time you guys want to start a fight. So, I guess that's:
Readied Action: Dimension Swap Talkrai and Jasper
Triggered by: Unit 16 "running", Pis jumping in the water, or anyone attacking (friend or foe)[/sblock]

Talkrai shakes her head and sighs deeply as Pis resumes his earlier tactic.

[sblock=Telepathy to Pis]Get away from there and stop being stupid. Throwing yourself in the river won't help anything. There are other ways.

Her "voice" sounds uncharacteristically calm and adult.[/sblock]

[sblock=Telepathy to Susan]Looks like it may be time to run.[/sblock]

[sblock=telepathy to Talkrai]"Best distraction we have. See if Susan thinks he can get Jasper away and I'll try to take care of the gnome."

Pis' voice has an oddly echoing quality to it. There's almost a kind of feedback involved.[/sblock]

"If it is what you wish." The gnome turns his head around and make a sign to the man upstairs. His man climbs down the stair with the worker, as he enter the place, the swordsman pierce the workers heart and fall among the other corpse around him.

"If you do anything else than opening that door NOW, you forfeit the live of all the other hostage, and your next!" order the gnome. As the gnome speak, the other swordman take a step closer to the River, pushing Jasper.

"No, please, I'll give you all my fortune, but don't kill me." plead Jasper to his captor.

[sblock=Action]Since Talkrai and Pis can speak at the speed of thought I'm going to hold off on jumping in for just a sec to see what her response is. i am, however, completely unaware of the rules in regards to cancelling a prepared action. I might be required to follow through. If so, he's swimming downstream.

I'm AFB. Anyone know my options? I really didn't expect him to ignore the prepared action.[/sblock]
