Moreover, after we had defeated them -- that man over there fled, but the others were unconscious -- my friend here even treated their wounds. We had confidence in your laws, so we preferred to bring them in here for justice rather than settle our own scores. Have you no shame" (now he's looking at one of the thugs who had been knocked out but whom Charlarn had stabilized) "after my good friend here had treated your own injuries, injuries you would never have suffered were it not for your own unprovoked attack, to bring this slander against us?"
Charlarn chimes in, Indeed, I am a priest of Phyrah. I did treat their wounds. If we had intended to ambush these men, wouldn't they be dead in the alley now?"

"Being visitors to your fair city, what is this bail that this man speaks of? Are we eligible as well? We do have jobs here in the city." Tenebrynn asks, thinking that it would probably be bad form if they were all arrested and kept in jail over night and thus unable to keep their contracts.

The older guard speaks to them kindly. "Yes. Of course you are eligble as well. Do you have the cash? What are your names? Are you local? Is there anyone who can vouch for your character?"

"Yes", says Nurlan. "We are employed in this town as security guards; I am confident our employer could vouch for our character. Do you mind if I confer privately with my friends?"

Assuming no objections, he whispers to Tenebrynn and Charlarn, "What do you say? I've refrained from mentioning our employer because it would reveal to our enemies where we live. But it may be our best hope. I know he thinks highly of our character; that's why he hired us. And he said he pays his dues, so he should have some influence. My guess is if the guild doesn't know where we're living in Monemvassia, they'll soon find out whether or not we bring our employer into this, so we might as well. Agreed?"

Charlarn replies, "I was thinking that, too. But I didn't want to bring him into this at first. We don't really have a good second choice now. I hope he isn't too worried about crossing the guild"

As an aside with the others Tenebrynn adds, "Hey we trounced these guys on their own ambush, it might actually make the Guild stay away tonight. But yes, I think that we have to let on who our employer is if we dont want to spend the night in jail. Which if we did, he might not be our employer in the morning."

Seeing unanimity, Nurlan turns to the older guard and says, "We are working as security guards for a local merchant named Kim Tensil, who I am confident can vouch for our character. And I believe we have the coin required, having collected a bounty yesterday on a few goblin brigands who were even more ruthless than this gang" (gesturing to their assailants).

(OOC: I never figured out exactly how much coin we each took last time, since it didn't divide evenly, by I'm sure we each got at least 2 pp.)

"I've got a bit here too." Tenebrynn says behind Nurlan, quitely so that the others don't really hear what he is saying.

[ooc: I have quite a bit of cash from my starting gear, was saving up to add extra spells to my spell book. Should be more than enough to cover the three of us.]

Captain Benjamin interposes. "Actually, all my clients are locals, and can be vouched for. I will put up bail for them. 20 gps, is it not?"
OOC: Is that 20 gp for each of us?

"Me, too," adds Charlarn.

You can see that Captain Benjamin handed over 80 gps for bail for his four charges. You received the equivalent of...I'll have to check, but more than 20 gps each, so you can pay it from cash accumulated in this adventure if you so choose.

"Kim Tensil. Yes. A very well respected merchant." says the older guard. "So if you're staying with him, and you've got bail money, you're free to go. We'll send a deputy 'round for you when we're ready to start the trial."

Captain Benjamin cocks his head at the mention of the merchant's name. But doesn't say anything more.
