OOC: I was thinking of trying insight, but yes, Perception auto-success aiding another so we don't get antoher fail

Cyr thanks the providence he took moments to orient himself in the darkness as he hears splashing and cursing. He observes the proceeding and instructs in passing:
"Don't chase them on both sides, just follow the creak. Here, if you need to pass look for the stones like these to give you boost before jumping or branches like these to swing over. It'll keep your strenght up for longer running. Now come on!"

DM: Here is the roll for next round if applicable. I know Inisght isn't listed, but even if you don't accept it and allow me to keep the roll with natural 19 I pass whatever skill is needed. Still Insight fits what I wanted to describe and you said we can try new ones
Skill challenge Insight(1d20+11=30) - oh, no, anothe rhigh roll. Once we start combat, I'll roll under 5 :)

Cyr notices the taint in magic trail and general direction of flight and connects the dots in his head.
"They are heading for the rift, keep this general direction, don't weave in and out after them. Just go straigth! They'll exaust themselves trying to lead us in circles while we go directly for them. Even if we overshoot them we can wait them out! And between all of us they stand no chance of passing unnoticed. The Gods are with us this night."

Though the strain is intense, and the misplaced footing of Jezebel and Alnar does set you back a bit, the party manages to keep the cloaked figures in view as the stream heads continually uphill and gradually becomes wider. Pushing yourselves to the limit you come to the crest of a low ridge, at the top of a short waterfall just in time to see the short, shadowy forms flit across an ancient stone bridge, that must date back to the time of the Kythiran Eladrin.

Bridge_Over_Falls.jpg

Just as you are about to charge headlong across the bridge though, one of the cloaked figures turns to face you, revealing a truly vile face, with yellow eyes, a long, hooked nose, and a sinister grin. The diminutive villain emits a hoarse chuckle, and makes a come-hither motion with a clawed finger before turning and fleeing away from the bridge and further into the dense mountain forest.

Clearly something isn't right here, but the stream is to wide and deep to ford, and the bridge offers you the only hope of moving quickly enough to maintain your pursuit.

[sblock="Skill Challenge - Nighttime Visitations"]Round 4
Primary Skills:
Perception, Dungeoneering, Thievery - DC 14

Secondary Skills:
Perception, Arcana, Insight - each of these skills can be used only once this round to either gain one success vs. DC 14 or aid another with their primary skill check

Something is not quite right about this bridge, but it's your only way to cross quickly enough to keep up the pursuit. Successes will help you navigate it safely. You need total success this round, as you've already accrued 2 failures.

Overall progress: 6 successes, 2 failures

For each round please narrate your character's actions and post your roll. Please make only one skill check per round per player. I'll indicate primary skills for each round, as well as secondary skills and what they can be used for. Aid another using one of the primary skills is always an option, but please note the updated Aid Another rules that implement scaling DCs and penalties for failure.

If you have an idea for a non-skill check action such as the use of a power for your turn, or you think of a way to apply a non-primary or secondary skill, run it by me and I'll let you know if and how it can be applied to the present round.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Busy with family stuff here. Will update again on Tuesday. Happy 4th everyone!

@Luinnar - You can only roll once per round, so your roll can either be for Draco or Alnar. But, Draco's flight could prove to be a valuable tool for non-skill check stunts and aid in this challenge...

@Metavoid - You can apply your Insight check from the above post to this round either as a success or as an aid another.[/sblock]

Then success it is!

Everyone, I suggest we make aid another rolls until we have one of the skills + aids at 3+ to succeed. We may waste round or two, but better that then to be dumped in the waterfall while they rain arrows from above! Also, can anyone teleport? Or jump far enough?

Happy 4th to americans!

[sblock=ooc] So... we cannot afford a single failure, or we lose the skill challenge, which means ? (we don't know). I am assuming a failed Aid Another does NOT count as a Failure, or else Metavoid wouldn't be suggesting that course of action. Am I reading this situation right? As far as flying... I recently picked up Wildshape, but am not sure if the RAI means for a Druid to be able to change into multiple forms (my primary is a bear)...pacdid would have to rule on that. [/sblock]

Sir Exsixten pauses dramatically, raising his fist and making a series of rapid, obscure hand gestures before crouching low and moving forward. SIR EXSIXTEN, WARY OF AMBUSH, CALLS HIS TEAM TO A HALT AND SCOUTS AHEAD, WARY, ALERT. COULD THE BRIDGE BE A TRAP, A PORTAL TO SOME DARK PLACE, THE TENDRIL OF AN EXTRADIMENSIONAL CREATURE SITTING AS AN INNOCUOUS LURE READY TO SNARE AN UNWARY VICTIM AND PULL THEM TO SOME GRUESOME DEMISE? SIR EXSIXTEN AND THE CITIZENS OF JUSTICE WILL SOON KNOW!

[sblock=Aid another success]Perception aid another: 1d20+2=21[/sblock]

[sblock=skill check idea]
How about Alnar gives a stirring speech (diplomacy) to drive the party onward and give them a boost in confidence?

Would that work?[/sblock]

By aiding another you cannot create failure, but with failing aid another you give next roll penalty instead of a bonus. Still, it's easier to make DC 11 then DC 15 esp with skill offered.

Of course, if you have a skill that is listed (Thievery, Dungeoneering or Perception) which could reasonably pass with +2 from Iron Sky (and maybe another +2 from Luinnar) go for it!

[sblock=ooc]Hope everyone had a good weekend!

@samursus - failure at aid another does not count as a failure in the challenge, but it will make it harder for any ally you "aided" to meet the DC in the current round.

As far as I understand the Wildshape power in RAW, you can take the shape of any medium creature you'd like, even one other than your primary beast form. However, the shape can't change your movement modes or game statistics, unless you've got a utility power or feat that does that. So, you could assume the form of a giant bat or something, but it wouldn't grant you flying ability. Nor could you gain a swim speed by assuming the form of a dolphin.

@Luinnar - I'd allow Diplomacy as an aid another if that's the way you want to play it. A diplomacy check won't necessarily give the party as much information about this round of the challenge as one of the primary or secondary skills will though.[/sblock]
