[sblock=ooc]RickRoll: In response to "(When's it last until?)", it's just stuff piled on top of 2nd wind, and that lasts until the beginning of Unit 16's next turn.

Luinnar: Depending on whether or not Chain97 is dead, you may not have used your Shield. Too bad it won't block the other Chain's attack regardless.

KarinsDad: Would you mind to pick any other mark other than Scimitar33 as part of your "is dead" scenario? Unit 16 is most effective when marking the maximum number of targets possible; your mark would erase his only one this round. Plus, as the only thing marked, he's the only guy who may even think about trying to attack Unit 16, and 16 has super-buffed AC this round.[/sblock]

I usually do not mark a foe that another player has marked, but in this case, I think it works out better for the team.

The Scimitar guys have that double attack if they flank thing going on. The first time they did that on Susan, it slammed pretty hard.

It is tougher for them to flank Grys than it is for them to flank Susan (although they might have a double shift they can do, I'm not quite sure of that yet). Susan is a single shift away from being flanked again by both Scimitar Hobgoblins.

As far as I can tell, their best course of action is to again double flank Susan and attack 4 times as opposed to attacking anyone else once each. 4 attacks vs. 2. If they do that, not only might Grys stop 6 points of that potential damage, but Scim33 will be -2 to hit Susan as well (which negates the flank bonus for at least one of them).

It is possible that Rick will have Scim33 ignore Susan, but if it does, not only is it -2 to hit anyone other than Grys (as compared to the -3 of Susan), Grys also still drops 6 points of damage from the attack if it hits. It Scim3 ignores Susan and tries to attack Grys, then it will take 5 points of damage.

But Grys just hit Scim3 for 12, so with 16 hit points left, it should either gang up on Susan with Scim12, or run for the hills. Do you have reason to believe that it won't do either of these?

Is there something that I am unaware of?

[sblock=ooc]Scimtar33 can shift 1 and attack Ryda: that is 16's most pressing concern. Not sure if he can get into flanking position or not (depends on his powers) but that's probably his best move and the most dangerous for us. Unit 16's mark gives an additional -1 to hit, and it allows 16 to punish anyone who ignores his mark, either with damage or a slide+slow.

Your mark effectively would make Unit 16's AC vs. their attacks +8 instead of +6. The truth is, there's very little chance they're going to attack 16 regardless, even with a flanking double attack: he's a huge tank right now, and his AC was already the highest of the bunch. +8 vs. +6 is probably not going to make a difference. And even if it would, 16 can soak like nobody's business - honestly, I think them both attacking 16 is our team's best option, and the one I'm hoping for, flank or no flank.

In the end it's up to you: I don't think it will make or break the battle or anything. :) 16's priority is always: less damage to others > less damage to self. His surges heal more per surge used than anyone, so healing him is the most efficient use of resources in his mind - and since he has the highest AC, enemies miss him more often anyway. He's always of a mind that enemies attacking him means they're already losing. :)[/sblock]

[sblock=RickRoll]I don't think it will come up, but I realized that if 16's bonus is only +6 to AC instead of +7, that means his other defenses are +2 and not +3. I don't think any of them have attacked anything but AC so far, but I will update my last action post. Sorry about that![/sblock]

If Scim33 can manage to flank Ryda and wants to do so, it'll do it regardless of who marks it. Whether it can flank or not, the -2 to hit and -6 damage (for one attack) by Grys' mark still protects Ryda more than 16s -3 to hit since Warden's Grasp won't prevent an attack. Ryda has more current hit points if Chain97 is dead. So, Scim33 shifting and attacking her is not really that dangerous to us because Jarren can heal her before the other NPCs can attack her again. If Chain97 is not dead, then this discussion is moot anyway.

But as a general rule, I won't be overwriting your marks often. For one thing, Grys can only re-use his mark when a foe is killed or someone overrides Grys' mark. Grys will typically set his mark and its that way most of the encounter. It just so happens this time that the first foe down is the foe marked by Grys.

I only did so this time because doing so looks better. Regardless of what it does, Scim33 does 6 less damage to the group its next turn and by the turn after that, it should be dead. The real threats here are the 3 attacks per round Chain foes, but Grys cannot do too much about them at the moment.

Note: As a general rule, I also want Grys' marks to be on a foe far far away from Grys. It just so happens that a near foe seems best this time. Next time, it won't be.

"Right here, next to me," Jarren calls back to Ryda, motioning with a sweep of his spear to the space between Mythra and himself.

[sblock=OOC]N32 would be perfect to let me heal Ryda and Mythra and get temp hp to all 3 of us. O33 also works great if you want a more defensive option, basically allowing the spirit to take Ryda's place in the front line and possiblymaking it more difficult for the hobgoblins to rampage along the whole row of us.[/sblock]

Ok, so Ryda's did hit Chain 97 (killing him) I'll try to work on a retconned post shortly. If you could be explicit in the posts that helps me. I'm not super familiar with all the powers, esp. ranger, this is my only one I've ever played ;) [/sblock]

Ryda coughs up a bubble of blood. I take back my earlier comments Susan, you can keep the job of getting hit. Hey Jarren, I think I might need a bit more attention from you, anyplace you would like me?

I don't recall anyone electing you as party leader! Mythra shouts through the noise of battle, tired at being ordered around.

"That's because we didn't invite you to the meeting." Grys retorts with a laugh.

"Hey Sir Dwarf. I'm over here. Why don't you come over here and play with the big boys." Grys taunts.

The burned scimitar wielder glares at Grys, but shouts out to his ally over the thunder, "C'mon we can finish off this 'forged and then have some fun with the elf" as he readies to attack. The one that Grys burned keeps the warforged off-balance and the other scimitar warrior gets two vicious stabs at Susan's back, before moving next to Grys.

Grys hits for 12 on each.

S33 readies an attack and S12 moves to flank, both hobgoblin's get double attacks and S12 shifts to K26. Hits AC 29, 1 crit, AC 24 and AC 14. First hits for 10, second crits for 17.
