[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

"Greetings, lady, show your self. We come in peace and would like to negotiate our way through." calls out Martelai in high eladrin.

Surreptitiously, he takes fey amulet and focuses inward, trying to feel the creature, dryad most likely.

OOC: I left the decision for you, but when you insist, here's the CRIT! :)

"What? No negotiation, you will let us pass through unhindered at once, creature." Master of mind manipulation, Vermitrax places a strong suggestion upon whatever creature has conjured the swamp to block their path.

Using suggestion: Rolling Arcane in place of Diplomacy: Another crit!: 34

Lilli winces at the imperative in Vermitrax's voice and peers at the thorny briars nervously.

[sblock=Nature check]What are these thorns effects (can Lilli get under them)? Roll = 25 [/sblock]

Cyr thinks on the details of this encounter, trying to divine what kind of creature are they dealing with.
Choosing between water and trees, nereids, dryads, various other forms of female fey is not an easy task.

In elven that went out of style hundreds of years ago he calls out
"Please, fear not, fair lady, we're the good guys here."

Nature (1d20+10=25)

OOC: As english is not my native, I will not even attempt some version of "old" english - consider the words and sentence structures sounding strange and not in use in the sentence above

@Neil1889: [sblock="Lilli"] Lilli takes a good long look at barrier. It is some 15' wide and about as tall as she is. Most of it composed of massive vines - some as thick as her leg, all lined with oversized jagged barbs. Entire thing moves slowly, rotating around the center - place where party is.
Many of these thorns are lined with tiny barbs leaking some sort of greenish fluid - even without further observation, Lilli would bet it is poison and probably nasty one as well.
Entire barrier radiates strong primal magic and Lilli wouldn't be surprised if it is capable of lashing out, grappling with vines or otherwise make life miserable to anyone in the vicinity.

However, it is not all that bad - dexterous man (or smaller being) would be able to squeeze through holes between vines, those in affinity with natural world would likely be able to calm thing for a moment to allow themselves passage and well... brute force could always work as would direct attacks against the thing - while thick and probably harder then it looks, it is certainly not indestructible. All of these things will likely take a while however.
OOC: translated:
- nature, acrobatics and endurance are best bet, other skills might work with some creativity; direct damage might work as well, but thing is not really soft; in every case, progress will take time - assume two move actions to bypass every square of barrier (one to take chances with more difficult skill rolls). Each attempt is likely to cause low damage, mild (and no progress) if attempt fails. And yeah, thing might actually attack.

Merry laughter stops for a moment as creature becomes visible - she sits on large branch of one of trees no more then 20' from barrier, dangling her legs like child having immense fun. Sharp features, autumn brown skin and flawless features definitely mark her as some sort of fey being - probably dryad or nymph of some sort. Her long black hair flows as if driven by wind that does now blow and her eyes are glowing emerald green and seem to gaze with curiosity rather then hostility. Clothed in little more then autumn leaves and crystallized mist, she doesn't seem at least frightened or impressed by band of adventurers in front of her.
"Greetings to you as well, strange things. You intrude upon this place and earth does not like your presence, especially yours <she points at Martelai>, you stink. What brings gray, sober things of gray worlds here - have you come to play? I can hear hunting horns and baying of hounds... have you come join the Hunt? Oh no... you are the prey, right? So fun... so fun! <childish laughter>"

@MetaVoid: [sblock="nature roll"]
Definitely some sort of female fey. You would bet on dryad or nymph (fact that scholars seem to mix these creatures all the time doesn't help one bit). Of creatures of Fey, this one is most likely 'in tune' with season of Spring - behaviour matches it as well - while these things are not very violent or aggressive, she probably won't take anything you do very seriously (even if you decide to attack her). You would expect at least some level of druidic magic from her, probably control over water and wind as primary, but shapeshifting and hefty amount of mind control is not out of question.

"Yes, I've heard that one before." Martelai raises his fey amulet to show her.
"But I was born here. What would it take to let us through and leave the earth in peace and your place without stink?" Martelai is deadly serious. He understands the fey and their proclivity for games. He's fully expecting some silly request from the creature. But the moon races across the sky and they don't have much time for games.

"Oh... you carry The Shard? Explains a bit <giggle>. So new pretender to the Throne has arrived? I knew this would be interesting spring!" Suddenly especially interested in Martelai (or his amulet), creature gazes at him as child would at new toy: "<sniff sniff, she wrinkles her perfect little nose> Well, could be worse I guess, though at least last one stank less... now he stinks even worse though so... At least you are not half rotten..."
She tries to assume serious pose (and fails miserably) "<giggle> So... what does our beautiful stinky new champion need from my little self?"

"Mostly to let us pass...but I know quite a few stories if you're willing to exchange your knowledge of the Shard and The Lady with our stories of daring and adventure. Some of them even in the surroundings much like your lovely home here. How about game of riddles? Contests?"
