[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

[sblock=OOC]The amulet is a dumb arse for an intelligent weapon. If it is trying to manipulate Martelai it is not doing a great job. Kane never uses his sword to cut. His Aegis is of shielding. He uses it to protect... And everything else except cutting. [/sblock]

OOC: LOL, I got an item that makes me a hexblade :) without special powers of one...what about showing me fastest (NOT shortest) way to the palace? Or should I re-roll knowledge(s)?

[MENTION=24380]Neurotic[/MENTION]: [sblock="OOC and knowledge skills"] No one told that intelligent items are especially useful :); also you are fairly sure that item (or whatever) isn't particularly interested in showing you way anywhere (even if capable of); it seems you will have to use more standard means of finding where to go.
[sblock="knowledge skills"]
As for knowledge skills:
- Arcana & Insight: Taking survey of magic in the area and other unusual features, Martelai is bit suspicious he is being watched, but it cannot determine by whom, where or why; as Hunters are not very likely to use divination magic, it is likely someone or something else... Martelai cannot shake off feeling he is being played with, and somehow he is sure that 'losing' a game won't end nice. There is some comfort to be drawn from feeling that he will be last to die if things go wrong, but how much exactly, well...
- Nature: No master ranger himself, but he is fairly sure that tracking around the swamp is possible - it is very likely to be less hazardous then going through it, but will most certainly take extra time - in flashes he saw, swamp wasn't particularly large so going around will add at least few, perhaps several hours to total track time. If searching for fastest way, well... truth be told, you don't expect to reach palace in less then like 15 to 20 hours of travel - two days if you push it, three otherwise. Going around the swamp will most certainly push it to three, brute forcing it might work, but you won't be looking nice in the process and rest will be out of question. If things he saw are correct, it will get easier once you reach open ground and start going deeper into ruins, but it wouldn't be strange if Hunters have laid traps along that way.
- other: party seems quite tired, not a good sign if you are about to begin 20 hour no-sleep hike

Martelai comes out of his daze and looks at the weapon in wonder.

"Not useful in looking for the best way around, but I got few glimpses. The swamp is not overly large, but it will still be two to three day hike to go around. And it may well be that much to go through, except with more natural danger and less of hunters traps. I don't think we can make forced march through all this, fighting along the way as we're not hunters. I'd say, let's start and try to keep the hunters away. If they press us, don't hesitate to use your more powerful spells. Cyr, you demonstrated remarkable powers of observation, take the point or be right behind someone who does. Lilli or Lerrick, you stay near the back. Kane, would you prefer to lead or be last?"

"Do we need to rest now or we're ready to go?"

Against the background of the rest the group playing with the amulet, Lilli first made out the sound of the chirruping male Swamp Nightjar before spotting it and quietly edging closer to it. She spent the time using her magic to entice it on to her hand.

"Sorry to interrupt your play, but we need your help," said Lilli in Eladrin. The nightjar chirped a response and Lotte returned a greeting in kind.

"Let us go. I have only so much time available when I can perhaps ask for his advice. Wait, me in the rear? What do I look like, a Druid?"

[sblock=Ritual casting]Lilli casts the Animal Friendship ritual (costs 50gp Rare Herbs): shame, only 12 for an hour's duration. I can hopefully use Speak with Nature to ask for directions in a bit, though.[/sblock]

Kane shrugs. "I kn-know j-jungle. S-swamp n-not s-so much. B-but looking at the r-rest of you ... m-maybe I should l-lead the w-way." Kane clearly means to go straight through the swamp.

Silver moon sets as companions prepare to start their track into the swamp. Taking last looks at the sky before entering deep foliage and choking vegetation ahead, they can see reddish glow on the horizon, seemingly coming from same direction where the silver moon set. As first light of Hunter's moon illuminates strange clouds that race across the sky with blood-red radiance, horn echoes in the distance. Mourning sound of Hunters' horn echoes the night sky and only moments later, other horn answers, followed by few more. The Hunt has begun...

jbear said he intends to go, not that he started or that we followed!
Where did we say we're going through the swamp?!

Besides, you didn't answer Lilli - true [MENTION=100292]Neil1889[/MENTION] didn't cast the ritual to speak with the beast...I thought we were waiting on that...

OOC: hm... I was under impression you did start on the track into the swamp. Anyway, let's say you are currently preparing to do so, I will leave some extra time for preparations; edited post to make it bit more clear
