"Hmmm...perhaps you can provide some more information on exactly what help we can provide. Our source was a bit.... light on details" the half-elf says with a smile, nudging her fellow Lyrandar as well, knowing she's likely stronger with her words than Thalen

Roswyn scowls at the goliath, but then sobers. "Right. Death sentence. All right, 'Krathak En Morthon' it is... hmph. 'Never fear, Krathak En Morthon is here' doesn't have quite the same ring to it..."

Roswyn picks up Thalen's cue. "Yes, your, um, call for help. It got a bit, uh, mangled in transit. Can you bring us up to speed on the current situation?" She strikes an attentive, serious pose.

The bearded man gives a half-smile, before continueing. The honeyed words and sweet smile of the petite gnome were harder to ignore than the obvious lie to the mayor.

"Lizardfolk from the jungle have been attacking recently, and in greater numbers." The mayor stops to stroke his beard. "A group of our militia went out to the jungle either to find out why, or to just stop them with force."

[sblock=Insight 20]By militia, he means people of some capability. A normal militia wouldn't be able to handle hardships of the jungle. Former adventures, war criminals, or war veterans that have taken residence in the town most likely.[/sblock]

[sblock=Nature 15]Being in Q'barra several tribes of lizardfolk probably live in the area. Not all may be hostile. The group would get information from other tribes before moving in to stop the hostile one.[/sblock]

"They were supposed to return more than a week ago. We have heard nothing from them. They were some of the most capable members of the militia. We are vulnurable to attack while they are gone. We sent word out, wishing for help to go into the jungle to find them."

Tondrek blinked twice and looked around, seeing the retreating tail of his group disappear into town. Shrugging, he lowered himself down and untangled himself. It took a good few minutes, and everyone was long gone by then.

Tondrek ambled it way in the general direction he thought the group went. Considering is quite unusual looks, no one would mistake him for a villager.

Tondrek without a guide and easily distracted, stops to look at a pair of monkeys and parrots in a tree. The half-orc turns in the wrong direction and heads toward the edge of the town. The timber wall is scorched in places and through a small gate, he can see a group of men working on digging a hole and lining up sharpened stakes to prevent a charge.

One of the men yell to Tondrek, "Hey you, what are you doin standin' around?! Everybody that can is s'posed to be workin' on the defenses! Grab a shovel!"

Tondrek frowns a moment, and rubs his chin. This actually cuts him a little, with the spiked gauntlets and all, but who could really tell with that face. He begins to chatter to the waxy form emerging from his pack, and before you know it, he's trying to give some unorthodox advice on the defenses.[sblock=OOC]Arcana and Thievery (closest to Engineering) coming up: 21, 25 respectively.[/sblock]

"There are a few tribes around here, any way we can tell which one is attacking you?" Thalen asks, then quickly adds "Oh, and we needed to discuss payment terms, I'm sure Roswyn will need those details." the half-elf says with a smile.

The fighter nods at the statement of the warden. "Your 'militia' would have wanted to talk to the other tribes if they didn't know which one attacked. So tell us, were these lizardfolk using poison, the color of their skins, their size?" The military fork that the conversation has taken peeks Rohna's interest.[sblock=OOC]Insight (1d20+4=22)

The bearded man blinks twice, then says, "Your sponsor should have already payed you what we could offer. We have little else to offer. This village has very little to export beyond the little gathering we can do in the jungles."

He then unfurls a scroll. It portrays a map. He points to a spot not too far from the town. "The lizards are green-scaled. It's believed they are from here. Another old temple."

[sblock=Perception 20]You here him say under his breath about "supposed hiring of heroes, not mercenaries."[/sblock]

A thought flickers over the man's mind
"Don't dismiss this group yet. Your sponsor hired this group for something else and they are still willing to aid you. That makes them heroes."

OOC: Telepathy

Tondrek mutters somthing to the other workers about angular momentium and optimum levels for stabby stabby. The worker's take his advice and after some show and tell, Tondrek is able to make the fortifications a little bit better.

Roswyn smiles. "An old temple, huh? Sounds interesting. We'll just have to make do with the rewards of scholarship, then. I think we should be ready to leave shortly."

She looks around the room. "'Another' old temple you said - you mean like this one? I'm intrigued that you use a place like this for your town hall. Is there anything else you can tell us about it? Was anything else found here originally?" The gnome pays careful attention to his response.

[sblock=ooc]Insight (1d20+8=27) Just being a little paranoid, but it seems weird that they've set up shop in this place. Even if it's nothing sinister, maybe they have more info or we could figure something out about the potential temple layout.[/sblock]

Tondrek claps after seeing the good work, smiles, and begins to walk away before iron hound at his feet tugged at his pants. After frowning a moment, he perks up and turns to the workers. Oh! City place where big, important people go. Where is? Friends being all important and negotiaty and stuff.

"You can find the missing members of the militia then?" The man begins scribbling down a desciption of the militia members down on a piece of parchment.

When finished he looks back up to the gnome. "Yes, this temple was abandoned. Dragonborn we think. Everything else here was looted long ago." He looks around the building, gaze lingering on the thick stone walls. "This isn't really our town hall, it's just the most defensible building. Our priest, Hammer, is one of the missing. He's the heart and soul of our town, in fact, he was the founder."

[sblock=Minor Quest]Report the fates of the militia members to the remainder of the town.[/sblock]

"Oh, you don't live here then?....I swear I've seen you before...." The leader of the worker's shrugs. "No matter. Just head toward the church," he points toward the stone point that is easily above the rest of the buildings in the village.
